Took a coach party of 61 mature folk for a 3 day weekend walking visit. Management and staff very helpful. Hotel midway through a refit.Rooms already refurbished are very good, the remainder are still very acceptable, comfortable, clean. Not all rooms have scenic views, but there is nothing to complain about. With a mixed group, you would expect a few... More

I stopped for just the one night as I came down to watch the lighting of the lights. First impressions of the hotel from the outside was very good. Some hotels tend to let themselves down with how the outside looks, but not the Carlton. As I walked into the reception area I was greeted by two smiley happy members... More

Once again another good 4 night break. I do think this hotel could be given another star by the AA, currently 2, deserves 3. More

This is a great value, clean and friendly hotel in a really good location. Located a stones throw from the town centre, sea and the quay. The hotel is a little bit dated in style but this is more than made up for by the cleanliness and comfort. A very tasty full English breakfast is served in the morning along... More

We stayed two days at the Carlton. It's easy to find as the directions are good, and the parking is easy (may be harder if the hotel is more full). Rooms are as one would expect, and the staff are very friendly and chatty. The hotel is very close to the seafront and a short walk to both the promenade,... More

Although the hotel was pretty full with an organised weekend group, I was given friendly personal attention and didn't feel left out. The room (double with single occupancy) was clean and well appointed with a spotless shower room. Breakfast was well served and a better selection than you often find in a hotel in this price range. Our stay at the Carlton was not pre-booked, but we were lucky enough to visit just as another family had vacated the room. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful & showed us the room first to make sure we were happy with it. This grand hotel is clean & tidy and nothing is too much trouble for any of... More

Only booked one night, at short notice. we thought it was expensive. (£84), The room was small, the en-suite VERY small. (The sink was in the bedroom - no room for it in the en-suite!). Our first room had a faulty toilet - we were immediately offered an alternative. The room was clean but, like everything else, tired. The beakfast... More
