We have just returned for our third visit to this hotel and it just gets better. A lot has been done to the rooms since last year and they are lovely, all tastefully furnished and very comfortable. The front rooms with bay windows give superb views over the North sea. The staff friendly and helpful, food very good and entertainment... More

We stayed at the Red Lea last weekend as part of the annual reunion of a naval association, We found the staff very helpful and enthusiastic (I would especially highlight the delightful Joanna), the food excellent, the hotel facilities and our room quite adequate. It was also a nice quiet location from which to explore Scarborough. Overall a very enjoyable... More

I notice that some other reviewers are young and I did consider re-titling this review, but, when I stayed at the Red Lea all the other guests were golden oldies. It brought back memories of seaside holidays in the 50's when this was a most up-market hotel in a most favoured location. In some respects it hasn't changed much, except... More

If you love the seaside, this is the perfect old fashioned hotel which makes everything easy and special. From parking permits to morning papers. Within minutes we were winding our way to the room in an old fashioned wooden lift. The room had a bay window with great sea views to the east, woodland views to the west and a... More

We had a great time in Scarborough - great walks, scenery and lots of good food. The Red Lea Hotel was perfect for us- very central, yards from the cable car to the Spa and beach. The atmosphere in the hotel was very relaxed and the staff from reception, restaurant and housekeeping all had time for you. Our room was... More

Try get a front sea view, bay windows best, nice and large, recently re-furbished, clean and comfortable. this hotel may be past its prime but the current owners are making continuing efforts to modernise whilst keeping the traditional ambience of the hotel, maybe best for older people. Good food in nice restaurant and cosy bar. More

booking the night at the Red Lea was a spur of the moment decision and thankfully not one that I regretted. The hotel is situated on the elegant Prince of Wales Terrace a short stroll to the front in Scarborough and provides an excellent base to discover some of the delights of the Yorkshire coast. Being a gay couple we... More
