Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were the only visitors of the hotel that time — not many tourists come to Linz in the middle of February. The owners were waiting for us and they called to us to confirm our arrival because we came to the city almost at midnight. They were very friendly and hospitable. The hotel is situated in 20 minutes walk (about 5 minutes by car) from the old town. It is small but rather comfortable and lovely. It reminded our own country house — very simple, clean and cozy. Small hotel presents have been already waiting for us in the room — that were small «Haribo» sweets. It was such a good sign of attention and hospitality and it really made our day. The breakfast was traditionally European. Cheese, bacon, milk, bread (the last one is supposed to be home baked but we are not sure) — everything was fresh and tasty. We were sad to leave the place so quickly, though we have brought home good memories of this family hotel and its service. I am glad to recommend it to everyone.

We booked the night before going after a last minute decision to visit Linz. A couple of reviews had said mentioned the walk along the main road to the city but in reality it was a short 20 minute stroll following the Danube and we were in the hauptplatz. I thought the price was a little high to begin with but then when I took into account the price of parking in an hotel car park and breakfast for 2 it actually wasn't bad at all. It really was fine to walk into town but if it were rainy or you just didn't want to walk you could take the number 26 bus to the centre. The guests house itself was nice. We were in room 6 which is on the side so the room was nice and quiet but the road was quite quiet even on a Saturday night so not sure you'd get much noise disturbance if you had a river view. The shower was nice and powerful which is a plus for me! The room itself was basic but of a decent size and clean; the Austrian twin was comfortable and I had a great night's sleep. There are quite a few dolls in the corridors which personally I find quite disturbing but I've lived in Austria for a few years now and I've seen them in various places so have had to get used to them! The guests house is also a restaurant but not open on a Saturday. That means that when we arrived it was closed-fortunately there is a sign saying if you come when the door is locked you should go round to the side door and ring the bell however it's in German so not everyone would be able to understand it! Breakfast was a standard continental buffet with a selection of bread rolls, hams, cheeses, jams, pates, Nutella, 3 cereals and fruit. Tea and coffee was offered when you came down and served to the table. It wasn't a huge spread but certainly it was more than enough to set us up for the day! A big plus for us was the parking - 1) that there was a car park on site and 2) the bonus of it being free! When I was looking at other hotels in the city a lot of them in our price range seemed to have an underground nearby to use. As we were only staying overnight I didn't really want to waste time looking for a car park and have to pay €20+ for the privilege! When we checked out we did chance it and drive in as it's free parking on a Sunday and we easily found a space on the main road just before the hauptstadt. All in all we were pleased and would definitely recommend if you were looking for somewhere to stay for a short break.

We have stayed at the Rothmayr twice now and both our memories and our expecttations have been met in full. Tghwe rooms are clean and well appointed, Frau Rothmayr is very attentive to her guest's needs and the continental breakfast is one of the best we hwve had in Austria. I would recommend the Rothmayr wholeheartedly to all. So whar are the downsides? If you are walking it might seem a long walk ionto Linz, and if you are driving, getting out of the car park requires commitment as it is on a bend and the cars appear round the corner surprisingly sudden. But these are nit picking trivia really, the view of the mighty Danube from the two rooms we have occupied is great, The food in the beer garden is great as well! We'll be back for sure

This was our most expensive accommodation so far but was far from the best. The room was quite small, the floor very squeaky, bathroom very small, the TV was mounted right up by the ceiling. As we wanted to watch the French open tennis, it was quite important to us. The bedside lights had such low wattage bulbs that you could not read by them. There was quite a bit of road noise. We were cycling but found the 2km ride into town a bit daunting as the road was quite busy with no cycleway. The breakfast was disappointing, very minimal, no fruit, only white buns, no choice of brown rolls. All these things we can put up with if the price matches but it was expensive we thought. Unfortunately we did not speak German which did not help. There was a lovely walk up the hill on the road behind which passed a pub which looked very inviting for dinner. We discovered it too late.
