We really enjoyed our stay at this castle hotel with its incredible views, stunning location, and old world atmosphere but if you are looking for modern luxury this property is not for you. Also, if you have any mobility issues then stay somewhere else, lots of stairs and uneven surfaces; we didn't mind at all and it just added to... More

This is a 5 century old fortress turned into a confortable hotel. Not for the disabled or anyone with difficulty walking up stairs. You stay here for the experience of staying in a castle. I have stayed here twice, the last time in a suite, much nicer then the small room we had the first time. If you need help... More

Worth staying for 1 night just to experience living in a castle. Make sure to get a room in the new part with a view of the water. The rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, bathrooms are good and clean. The breakfast area is on the second floor and it's a grand room. The only drawback may be carrying your... More

We were booked into this hotel but couldn't even get into the reception area .......... Over forty cobbled and steep steps from the parking area and no lift or elevator anywhere inside the hotel so my wife ( who has a walking difficulty ), simply couldn't access the hotel at all. Great staff ...... They did thier best to help... More

Just arriving at this castle was an experience. The car park is at the bottom of the castle so you need to walk through an archway and up the castle steps to reach the Pousada (This would be a problem if you find steps difficult). Once you arrive at the top the views are fantastic and there is a ‘wow... More

This hotel offers great views of the city and the ocean high up on a cliff. you can walk around the castle and take excellent photos. The staff was very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to be accommodating. Breakfast was good. About a 5 minute drive to the city center. Getting to the hotel if you aren't... More

Courteous and polite staff. Wonderful location (the views from the outside terrace are gorgeous), although it's isolated on a hill, miles away from anything. For the 5-star price I paid (>200 €/night) I got basic 2-3 star facilities, small and badly appointed rooms, dated bathroom, paint peeling off the walls, breakfast is so-so at best. A steep climb up from... More

We stayed in Pousada de Setubal in September 2011 and I can easily say the fortress is one of the best preserved building I have ever seen. You climb up the 500 year old stone walkway to reach the reception. There is a little blue tile decorated chapel inside the Pousada. The area is quiet, surrounded by trees, the view... More

We ate at the restaurant and despite the amazing view, the food was average at best. The fish was fine ( I imagine you have to leave Setubal if you're a chef who can't cook fish!) but the vegetable were awful...indelible in some cases. The view is great, but go elsewhere if you want a decent meal....at half the price.... More

Who would have thought I would sleep in a fortress ? Yet, overlooking the beautiful Sado estuary ? Keep on gazing and one will see the vast Atlantic ocean ahead. Total bliss for a stay in Setubal. This was the very first pousada before I became hooked on the pousada stays throughout the stunning and vast country of Portugal. One... More
