Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights to celebrate his birthday. We had a lovely spacious room overlooking the canal, number 4, it wasn’t noisy at all (as mentioned in previous posts and I’m a light sleeper). The breakfast was delicious every morning, it kept us full all day, cereals, fruit, yogurt, meats, cheese, bacon, salmon, scrambled eggs, toast, pasties and hot drinks were all available. There are 2 breakfast times to put your name down for the night before, 0800 or 0930. The hotel is about 10 mins walk to the main square and 35 minutes walk from the train station. We would happily stay again.

Extremely cosy, warm, old style hot with very friendly staff. The rooms are clean, warm with comfortable beds. Lovely old style hotel and bar room with nice piano music in the background. Only 7 min walk to old market square.

On arrival I was asked to pay a fee of £403 which I was told would be 'blocked' from coming out of my account. On departure, I was asked to pay another fee of £407, which I was told was the 'real' payment and would 'unblock' the first payment. Both amounts came out of my account (£811 for 3 nights), which left me with no money for the remaining day of my holiday, this obviously caused me unnecessary stress and upset whilst on holiday. I had to resort to borrowing money off relatives just to reach my next destination. It seems a ridiculous way to take payments, and it should not take a whole day to return a large sum of money back to someone's account. Not everyone has large amounts of money in their account for that to be feasible. I have no idea what the benefit is of taking two separate payments other than the fact I've been refunded £5 less than I was originally charged.

Really lovely and welcoming staff and a beautiful hotel nestled in the quiet backstreets but close enough (5 mins from town square) to the action. It’s a perfect location. We had the wow factor when we walked into our room and it was a lot bigger than expected. We had a very comfy bed and it was perfectly clean. The breakfast was a lovely cold continental breakfast, which was delicious and there was even Prosecco to make a Buck’s Fizz, which was a lovely touch. The whole experience felt very special.

This is a really lovely hotel, and the location is perfect for exploring Bruges. We stayed in room 9 which was originally the kitchen, so quite surprised to see an old stove and other unusual original features but it was nice! The bathroom was lovely and the bed was comfy. The only negative side was that as it was so old it was a little bit dusty with a few cobwebs - I think this is to be expected but maybe a bit more attention to detail is needed. However despite this it didn’t take away from the fact we had a really lovely stay, staff were friendly, it felt very safe and we slept well! I would recommend this hotel!

When I arrived they put me in a large room in the basement. Even though it was summer, it was very cold and damp - not good for my breathing. I requested another room and was told they would have one for me when I returned. I had packed up everything so that it would be able to be moved easily. When I returned I found they had not changed my room saying that things were not ready to be moved. That really upset me. I am 80 years old and having lung and breathing problems. So I struggled through the night. Before going out the following day, I waited for them to be ready to help get things moved. My "new" room was much better, but that was also my last night there. I felt this hotel was a splurge for me. I was so excited to be in Bruges in what was supposed to be a wonderful hotel. I was definitely very disappointed. The location was very good.

Wonderful location. Lovely, friendly and competent staff. The outlook and location of this hotel was just amazing. We seemed to be in a quiet but central part of this gorgeous city. Clean amenities and bathroom. A small private bar downstairs was just the ticket to relax after a day wandering this town.

The staff at Martin’s Relais, and particularly Laura, offer stellar hospitality in an elegant old-world setting that is a feast for the eyes, spacious and comfortable and in an unbeatable setting, walkable to the gorgeous sites of Bruges, yet set back from the noise of tourism. I cannot imagine booking into another hotel on my next trip to Bruges, and I certainly plan to return!

There are two hotels of this name in Bruges - one is directly behind the main market square - I stayed there in 2016 - it was modern, clean and I remember being happy with the place. The second is about a 10 minute walk away from the main square. It is quirky, comfortable, clean friendly, beautiful in lots of ways and a great place to stay when in Bruges. There are many pieces of antique furniture in each room - none of them refinished - this adds to the charm and also take the fear of damage away. We had super nice staff, comfortable beds and, after dark, candles everywhere. Highly recommend.

We stayed at Martins Relais for three nights and had a wonderful time. The bed was incredibly comfortable, everything was very clean and well looked after and the breakfast was excellent with a large variety of meets, cheeses, breads, pastries, cereals, yoghurts, teas, juices and fresh fruit. The staff were also very polite and helpful!
