I stayed in Mediterraneo during 1 week in September 2011. Before my trip I choosed hotel or B&B very scrupulously by location / price / interior.
I do not like Grand Hotels "gold&red" style and I never stayed in places with common bathrooms.
I prefer international chain hotels for business trips or realy nice domestic B&B for vacations.
