I stayed for three days in the Locanda hotel and found it very over-priced for what it offers, The rooms are incredibly small, there is only the space for a bed (I had to jump over the bed to be able to shut the windows), noisy (the walls are in paper), the breakfast is minimalist, the staff unfriendly and unsmiley... Had to go to the Cafe to be shown to our room. The girl was quite freindly. We had asked for twin room, but ended up with a double and they were unable to change this as fully booked. It wasn't the end of the world though as we were out and about til very late each night and could... More

We booked on Expedia and it was not cheap: $140/night, but when we arrived no one was there. The neighborhood of Trastevere - although called charming in the Lonely Planet guidebook, was dirty and scary. The piazza the hotel was in was scary and looked like projects. The "hotel" - if that's what it could even be called - was... More

I know the location is great but you should not have to put up with a room like the one we got for location. We stayed for three nights we probably got the worst room in the place as it seemed to be the only one facing the back and not the square, it was covered in cobwebs with a... More

Trastervere has local and touristo feel, close to trams and in walking distance of the Vatican, Colloseum etc if your feet are up to it. We stayed here twice, staff can be unfriendlly when cafe busy, especialy in the mornings. Our Italian must have improved for second stay in the month, as they appeard more willing to smile. Rooms vary... More

We are just back from a great break in Italy. We stayed 5 nights in Rome and 6 nights in Venice and we both loved the experience. Rome is a very expensive place to stay, and finding value can be difficult. After a fair bit of research we booked the 5 nights at the Locanda San Cosimato in Trastevere. It... More

They advertise free wireless internet in all rooms which is a falsehood as they do not have any, which was the major reason I booked here. The room was small and overlooked the piazza which was noisy early in the morning and the walls were also paper thin and you could hear everything from either side. Fortunately the restaurant and... A bit hard to find -- the hotel is run out of the Caffe San Cosimato (one door to the right of "al Spaghettari," -- white neon sign) on Piazza San Cosimato. (The #8 "Argentina" tram will get you from the Trastevere train station to within a couple blocks of the hotel.) Excellent location, easy to walk to all the... More

This friendly locanda (really only a cafe with rooms attached) is on a bustling, characterful square (morning market) in Trastevere (ie over the Tiber from the central, historical district) and is perfect if you want a relatively cheap place to stay within walking distance of lots of bars and restaurants as well as the main sites. We got the tram (no... More
