This hotel is difficult to get to because of the city's steep hills, but it is well worth the walk. As suggested by its name it is located in the historic Sassi district. The staff is helpful and friendly and the breakfasts and views are special. Stay there is you are in the area. More

We've been circling the town before we decided just to park the car and walk...which is actually the only smart way to get around in Matera. The hotel is in a wonderful place: a real unique spot! Rooms are beautifully Restored, although our shower was really small. The first hotel to open in the sassi, or caves of Matera. Each room is different, so can only comment on ours - carved out of a large cave (bigger than a London studio flat). "Balcony" outside formed from the entrance from which you can watch the birdlife - in particular the lesser kestrel. Staff excellent and helpful. Wonderful place. More

wow covers it, hotel is the actual sassi itself, we got a cheaper rate turning up late and just getting their best rate for the night.. Parking as is for all of Italy a pain. Breakfast was good.
