It is a nice hotel out in the nature (surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra Nieves) near town Istán. The hotel is reasonable and provides all necessary things for a fine stay in southern Spain. The only that I found disturbing was the fact the in four nights I slept there, in no single day the towels were changed. From a hygienic point of view, it is very important to meet this (basic) standard. I can understand if it happened one day. But all the four days is too much and does not contributes to a fine stay nor experience. Unfortunately, not a good experience.

The location, in the mountains above Marbella is wonderful. When we arrived the public areas looked welcoming and comfortable, however the room was very much 2 star with cheap furniture and a cramoed bathroom with towels that had seen better days. The pool needed a good clean, so we didn't use it. However, we enjoyed an evening on the terrace with drinks before our meal. The meal itself was far better than we expected with some unusual and imaginative dishes, beautifully cooked and presented. So we were looking forward to the breakfast. Sadly it was dismal. A bread roll served with some margarine and a tiny portion each of pate and jam. I asked for, and received some tomato and oil, but clearly that put them out. There were a few drying pieces of watermelon and a tiny piece of sponge cake. And the worst coffee I have ever had in Spain. Such a shame, because it is so easy to create a great breakfast, just with a few tweaks. Maybe a croissant, some jamon, fresh fruit etc. And decent coffee! …

Lovely hotel within a short walk of the village centre. Rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was simple but very tasty. Great views of the lake, and the heated swimming pool was a bonus.

What a great place to unwind. Very relaxing atmosphere. Yes it may not have the luxury of some 5 star hotels but there are some things money cannot buy. All in all a perfect stay for us and the food and service was excellent. We stayed in room 6 which was ground floor and on the end with a great view

A beautiful place: a good room with a view, a nice rustic breakfast served on a terrace with a wonderful view, and a well kept pool area. All for a reasonable price. The nearby village (800 meters away) is quiet and beautiful and with good Spanish restaurants. All in all, highly recommended!

Enjoyed our stay at this rural hotel. We were a bit disappointed that there was no restaurant because in all the reviews we read everyone was raving about it. The room was clean and comfortable with a TV (being digital it was possible to change the language or have subtitles) but there was only one bath towel per guest, no hand towels, and to be honest the towels had seen better days. We were welcomed by (I assume) the owner who gave us lots of information about the surrounding area but not much about the hotel facilities, in fact nothing about them. There was a bar but we were not sure when it was open, if ever, and it wasn’t until our last night that we discovered an ‘honesty’ fridge full of cold drinks, beer, wine, cheeses etc. Having said all that though the staff were friendly and the breakfast was very nice, maybe a bit boring though to have the same thing every day. Overall, good value for money, and fantastic views. …

A lovely quaint little B&B with lovely views over the mountains. The 2 ladies were very welcoming - which goes to show that language need not be a barrier, as we don’t speak Spanish but were able to enjoy their warm hospitality. There is a lovely terrace with views from which you can watch all the aspiring Geraint Thomases cycling up to Istan. There is also a small pool at the back. Can’t comment on food as breakfast was not included in the room rate. The hotel does not offer dinner but is advertised as a restaurant in Istan so maybe they need to remove this sign. It’s a shame though as the views would make it a great spot if they reverted back to doing food. The lady gave good advice re the wine and we bought some from the fridge after she let me sample some of it. A great place to stay outside Marbella. Rustic, unique & picturesque. Would return rather than stay in Marbella.…

Hotel Rural los Jarales is a very good place to stay. We had a nice room with a door/window and if you opened it we had a stunning view over the mountains and river from our bed. The road towards the hotel is very curvy and we found it a bit to hard to drive every day, especially in the dark (88 curves!). And we missed the possibility to lunch in the hotel because of this, but for 4 nights it was okay. We found it strange we didn't read anything about the road up and down in any other reviews (though we could have seen it on google maps if we paid more attention to it..). Istan is a very small and nice village were you can eat and drink between the locals. (Diner only after 20.00 or if you want something before, only 5 different tapas for €1,-) On the road down the mountain are several stops with walking trails to the river. The breakfast at the hotel was fine but it would be nice if we got just one more sandwich. The owner is very helpfull, nice and speaks english very well. You can get cold drinks in the hotel. The swimmingpool was unfortunately covered during our stay, although it is fine to just go in and out. But you can't sit on the side of the pool because it was to hot underneath the glass. In the night you can see many stars if you sit outside, beautiful!. Inside you can also sit and watch television or play some games. Overall we had a great time here and especially if you want peace, something with a beautiful view or if you love to hike.. i recommend this place!…

We really enjoyed our stay at Los Jarales, The host was so friendly and welcoming, we really felt at home. We had an amazing view from our room and it was very comfortable and spacious compared to other hotels in the price range, we really wish we could of stayed for longer!

How lucky we were to find this gem - an oasis, in the mountains approx. 20 minutes from the overcrowded Puerto Banús. A simple, clean and comfortable bed and breakfast with stunning views. There is also an outdoor pool. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming, always ready to assist. Istán itself is a small unspoilt mountain village. The area is a cyclist's paradise with hill climbs. So enjoyed our stay.
