Last weekend I attended my son’s wedding reception and stayed over for 2 nights. I can’t thank the management and staff at the hotel enough for making it a truly special time. From the warm welcome to the delicious food, everything was superb. The staff were professional, polite and always had a kind word and ready smile. We were all so delighted with The Four Seasons and will certainly return in future.

We travelled as a family of 4 to this hotel and we were warmly greeted on arrival. We were early and as our room wasn't ready it was suggested that we go into the bar for a coffee.
All tables were well spread out, staff very attentive though not all were wearing masks. This was early July and it was not mandatory at that time.
We were shown to our room, a lovely family room with a very large bedroom and the sitting room had two sofa beds and another single bed, so plenty of room for us all.
We were able to book the swimming pool, and those that went were happy with the way things were dealt with Covid Wise.
We ate in the dinning room the first night, food was really good and only at one stage were we a bit anxious when the person taking our food order stood right between 2 of us, with no social distancing at all. Apart from that the service was very good and staff very attentive at all times.
Breakfast on both mornings was excellent with everything being served to you.
We ate in the bar on the second night, table were very spacious and well apart, food and service again were very good.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Four Seasons Hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful at all times.
If you are staying in Monaghan Town and looking for something to do, a visit to Rossmore Park would be recommended.

Hi Maeve939, Thank you for your lovely review. Delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed your recent break. We have recently received the Fáilte Ireland approved Covid- 19 Safety Charter and in conjunction with our on-site Covid Compliance Team, we are glad to hear overall good feedback from this. We are very blessed to have Rossmore Park on our doorstep which is perfect for a wee afternoon out. We are also very lucky to have so much to see and do in Monaghan and a wonderful tourism team in place in the town! Covid-19 has certainly changed how we operate Maeve but it has not changed our level of Irish hospitality that we strive to give our guests at all times. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel again soon, Kindest Wishes, Nicola

Just back from a one night stay here ,I booked the hotel online on their website the night before we stayed and all that was available to book was a suite so we didn't have a choice but pay 185 for bnb which I thought was expensive but it was a suite I suppose ,anyway the main complaint i have is there was no shower,it did have a bath but no shower,I've stayed in suites before and all I've stayed in had both, this wouldn't be a problem to most but I've a sore knee so it wasn't ideal for me,i decided to check online and saw that double rooms were available at a much cheaper price ,I spoke to a lady at reception and explained my predicament and asked how there were rooms available that weren't the night before ,she spoke to someone in the back office and told me that workers had cancelled that day, anyhow she offered me a double room with shower and i presumed I'd get a refund of price difference but not so ,she said I'd booked suite so had to pay for it and suites don't have showers ,my room wasn't suitable for me and there were rooms available that obviously had been paid for as per cancellation policy so i don't understand why i couldn't get a refund of the difference if i agreed to take the double room.
The hotel is four star but we were very disappointed with the dinner menu, basically it was bar food served in either the bar or their restaurant area and I feel it was expensive for what was offered in comparison to other hotels we've stayed at recently.
Staff in the bar and restaurant were friendly.
The leisure centre is dated especially the changing areas but staff were friendly again, sauna ,steam room and jacuzzi all closed with no prior notification ,these are all open in other hotels we've visited.
Overall I regret to say we had a disappointing stay.

Dear 744Giovanna, Thank you for your review following your recent stay with us. As you mentioned, you choose to proceed with reserving our Superior Suite as at the time of making your booking that there were no other room types available. The description of our Superior Suite on the hotel's website quite clearly outlines that the bathroom contains a jacuzzi bath and makes no mention of a shower, I apologise if you overlooked this. As you made your reservation online, there would a payable commission associated to the rate of your original booking for the Superior Suite that the hotel would have to still pay which consequently would mean that we would not be able to reduce your rate. We offer a freshly prepared and locally sourced where possible menu throughout the hotel that is competitively priced for the local Monaghan area. We're glad that you recognised the high-quality of service and hospitality that our team offer to all of our visiting guests. I'm disappointed to learn that you were not aware of our leisure facilities being open on a reduced capacity as it is clearly listed next to each of our accommodation rates on our website - "Full use of our award-winning 4Fit Leisure Club facilities; Subject to the latest regulations", as well in the confirmation email. We apologise this affected your experience with us, however, I do hope this will not deter you from visiting the hotel again in the future. If you do decide to revisit us, please ask for me directly and I’d be more than happy to see if there’s anything we can do to enhance your stay. Kindest wishes, Laura

We travelled a 5 hour journey to Monaghan to meet up with friends after a 34 year gap. We were absolutely delighted to find that using google maps this hotel was like seeing a watering hole in the desert! In the miserable weather it was so easy to find, on the outskirts of the town with loads of parking space. I personally loved the hotel decor & found it very warm & comfortable. It was the perfect meeting place & we were all so relaxed it was simply a joy to be there! I only wish that we could have stayed longer, as it was only over night we didn't get to enjoy or experience fully what the hotel has to offer its guests.
I am now at an age where comfort & a good nights sleep come top on my list of musts...that covers: silent fire doors, reasonable level of noise for room doors closing, quick flush & refill on toilet ensuite, quiet ensuite fan, ensuite not fogging up completely after shower (the shower was wonderful!). We never heard any noise from any of the rooms on either side & an essential - comfortable bed, silent heating, low exterior noise levels. It was one of the best nights sleep I've ever gotten in a hotel! So much so that I took a photo of the make of the mattress!!
Though the room doesn't supply all those extra little luxury items that you can take or leave I'd gladly trade bottled water any day for a good nights sleep.
When we arrived initially & found out that our room was beside a fire door we immediately asked for a different room, that was no problem at all, though in the end we never needed to move at all since this hotel has the softest closing fire doors ever!
I loved the breakfast area decor, the range of choice suited us perfectly - I'm vegetarian & my husband isn't. There was enough choice to keep both of us happy.
The staff were very friendly & eager to engage.
I usually don't like staying away from home but I found that I wanted to linger for longer in this hotel!

Had a fantastic visit for my brother’s 30th birthday. We weren’t sure how things would go given the changeable restrictions but we felt totally safe throughout our stay.

The staff had clearly implemented Covid safety protocols and these were clearly signposted and explained so we didn’t feel confused at any stage.

I am bowled over by the service - staff facilitated a secret birthday cake surprise at dinner (wasn’t sure this would be possible given Covid). Food in the restaurant was gorgeous and staff very attentive.

Chicken wings, ribs, salt chilli chicken and ciabatta for starter were delicious. Mains of steak burgers, tortellini, and duck were far beyond usual hotel / pub grub. Wine was perfect.

Staff were slick in bringing out the birthday cake with candles lit and singing happy birthday - very impressed & will be back.

The Hotel is situated just on the outskirts of Monaghan and only a few minutes drive into the centre. It would be walkable for those who wish to avail of a nice dinner and drinks in the town at about 20 mins walk.
It has a nice approach to the hotel with an impressive front facade. The lobby area is welcoming with plenty of comfortable areas to sit and relax. The check-in was quick, efficient and friendly.
My room was on the ground floor which is always a bug bear as I feel it necessary to have the curtains always closed for privacy - but this is a personal preference.
The room was nicely decorated with contemporary fixtures and fittings which do not bare the signs of wear and tear. There was plenty of storage space and the familiar necessities of tea/coffee, toiletries and a good sized television. The room also had comfortable seats to relax in. The furnishings are plush and fitting of a 4 star. I would say in time the bathroom will need updated as its age does show and I resisted a shower due to the shower head. The only issue I had with the room was the bed and WiFi. There was low speeds of 2mb which was found around the hotel. Secondly, the bed had a canyon between the two single mattresses pushed together. I addressed this at reception who informed me it was a zip&lock bed and they would ask house keeping to look at. However on inspection it was two different sized incompatible mattresses. Something not an issue to a couple, but a consideration to a solo traveller.
Breakfast was a nice moment with a pleasing offering of hot food made to order. The staff were attentive and allowed for variations of the menu to be ordered. There was also a small selection of a continental breakfast available to.
The fourth star for this hotel is undoubtedly achieved due to the spa. A good sized pool along with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. However on my visit the steam room was not operating and the jacuzzi was only just warm.
It would also be best to avoid nights when there is a school formal or disco on if that is not to your suiting. And also a room away from one of the loud corridor doors.
Overall this is a comfortable hotel on the outskirts of a nice town. The hotel still maintains its homely family run charm and the staff are welcoming.

Dear SoloStays, Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your very detailed review! Overall it was a pleasure to read. We do apologise that you found the WiFi to be slow, unfortunately when there is a large volume of guests logged on to a public WiFi it can reduce the speed of it. We also apologise for the gap between the bed, as you were informed they are zip and link beds and sadly on this occasion our team missed the link! We are most proud of the comments you made in regards to our long-standing, dedicated and friendly team <3 We hope to welcome you back again soon - And please know we always do our best to accommodate room allocation requests too :D Kindest wishes, Laura

We have just returned after a 2 night family stay. Our room was perfect. Massive king size bed and in the living room part two sofa beds for the kids. The staff couldn't be more welcoming. We ate in the restaurant both nights. The food was delicious. Although €9.50 for a kids meal is rather steep and the portions are small.
The hotel made us very much at ease with all covid regulations adhered too.
The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars as I feel the pool let the hotel down. We visited the pool 3 times. On all occasions there was the same pink 'paw patrol' plaster on the ground near the kids pool. There were 1 to 1 swimming lessons happening on each visit. Although each guest had to wear a swimming hat. It didn't seem to apply to one of the swimming instructors with long dark curly hair. We were asked (in a polite way) to move out of the way as our kids were in the way of another child being taught to swim. My son is currently having lessons so was practicing himself but was asked to move a couple of times which meant he was in a deeper part which he was uncomfortable with.

Putting the pool aside we will definitely be back. Great family hotel

This was the second place we stayed for our holiday, and it was lovely to stay somewhere that felt different from Dublin and in a hotel that felt local, friendly and not like a chain.

The hotel is pretty big and clearly its been extended over the years, lots of nice lobby areas and outside seating was welcome in an unusually warm and sunny few days in Ireland.
We ate both nights in the bar/restaurant and had lovely food and good service. The package we booked gave us a discount on food and two glasses of house wine, we also had a bottle of fizz on ice left in the room and a card for our wedding anniversary which was really appreciated.

The room was really large and airy, massive bed and chairs, view out over the car park and countryside. Our only niggle is so small, it's only really a suggestion at most - the bathroom has no shelving or place to put things on, it's really not a complaint in any way.

Staff were all very professional in a nice relaxed, country sort of way. The hotel felt very welcoming. We used the swimming pool in the leisure centre which was great.
Lots of thought has gone into managing the covid situation and it felt in no way like it took away from our stay.

The town itself is about 20 mins walk and it's nice to walk around, Cavan is another nice town not far away along with Armagh.

Thanks to all the team who looked after us so much.

Hi NI_Carrick, Thank you for your lovely review and thank you for choosing us to celebrate your anniversary! Our midweek Nearcation offer of €99 per room with a glass of wine each and a €20 dining credit is certainly going down a treat so we are happy to read that you enjoyed your stay! We are locally owned by the McKenna family and pride ourselves in that local, friendly atmosphere you mentioned. We are glad you enjoyed our recently renovated foyer area which is ideal for relaxing and I hope you also availed of our outdoor seating area to enjoy the sunshine during your stay. Thank you for the comments regarding the shelving which is not something we have heard before but will certainly take that on board for the next bedroom renovations. Many thanks for the kind comments regarding our management of the COVID situation - this is something that is changing so quickly and we are very lucky to have such a great team in the hotel who are adaptable to change to help our business grow. We hope to welcome you back to the hotel again soon. Kindest Wishes, Nicola

Our room was unfortunately right next to the function room where there was an event on both nights of our stay, leading to really loud music until midnight and people in the corridor talking loudly outside our room up until 4am.

The cleaning staff took off the "room is ready to be serviced" sign and while they emptied the bins did not clean or make the bed which was disappointing. There was no bottles of water in the room or robes provided which are usually standard in a 4 star

Dear Cara, Thank you for taking the time to provide the hotel with your feedback following your recent stay with us. Providing our guests with the best possible hospitality and service has always been our mission, so I’m disappointed to learn that you feel we have let you down. We have been awarded a four-star grading and we regularly checked by the Failte Ireland to ensure that we are attaining the required standard. Both bathrobes and bottled water are considered to be an enhancement rather than a perquisite of four-star grading, but both are readily available for guests who request them. I am so sorry that you had to endure the noise from the wedding parties, we do our upmost when allocating guest bedrooms to ensure all our residents get a good night’s sleep and I sincerely regret that we failed you. Had we have been aware we could have room moved you on your first night’s stay. We are sorry that you were disappointed with our housekeeping team but in an effort to limit the time our housekeepers are in guest rooms that are occupied a quick refresh is done, such as emptying the bins and replacing used towels for example, but a full service is reserved until departure. We hope your experience will not deter you from visiting the hotel again in the future. If you do decide to revisit us, please ask for me directly and I’d be more than happy to see if there’s anything we can do to enhance your stay. Kindest wishes, Laura

Very disappointed with our stay last Friday night. Booked a night away for my husbands 40th, first time in 3 years we have been away to a hotel so we were really looking forward to it. I had rang during the week & ordered a beer & nibbles pack for my husband but when we arrived at the room the beer was warm. There was no fridge or even an ice bucket to keep them cool. The room was basic enough and i would have expected some water bottles to have been provided.

We ate in the Terrace restaurant which was lovely & relaxed and quiet. Darren looked after our order and he was very good in finding out what foods i could eat due to multiple allergies. There was no starters suitable for my allergies so I ordered a medium steak for main but when i cut it open it was rare, i tried to eat it but just couldnt enjoy it so sent it back to the kitchen to be cooked another bit. Darren brought back a new steak and apologised sayjng the chef admitted he didnt cook it to the way I had asked for. He said that we wouldnt be charged for the steak for the mixup however when the bill arrived the steak was lsited on it so I had to remind Daren that he said we wouldnt be charged for it . I had asked during the week if on my husbands dessert plate could the chef write Happy birthday on the plate, which he did and the staff brought out the dessert with a candle on it and sang Happy Birthday so that was something positive about the meal and we a1lso got the desserts complmentary which helped with the disappointment with the steak mixup

I ordered breakfast to the room for the nxt morning at reception after dinner. I mentioned my allergies (milk, egg & soya) to the receptionist & she just handed me the order sheet and told me to pick what i wanted. All i could pick was cornflakes & fruit salad as allergies werent listed for each product, only gluten free and vegan options. I asked the receptionist if you provided oat milk which she went off & found out from someone that you did so i put down i wanted oat milk on my order form. The next morning breakfast arrived, there was 2 jugs of milk on the tray. There was no indication if both were oat milk or cows milk & when i poured some into a glass i wasnt convinced by the look of it that it was oat milk. My husband tasted a bit & said he didnt know which made me more convinced it was cows milk as he would have tasted a difference if it was oat milk . I couldnt take the chance with the milk so i could not have the cereal and drank black tea. Fruit salad was all i could eat for breakfast.
When checking out i mentioned to the receptionist that we were on the nearcation stay and should we not have got €20 dining credit as we had dinner in the restaurant. She said we should have brought it up with the staff at the restaurant last night. We were also suppose to get 2 glasses of wine on our package but because neither of us really drink wine i didnt ask for it. Surely if these items are included on your package the staff should be reminding you about them at check in or when being seated at the restaurant and not the.customer having to ask for everything. Service just not good enough for a 4 star hotel.

Dear KarenT533, Thank you both very much for choosing the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan, for your husband's 40th birthday celebrations. I'm sorry to hear that the beer you had organised was warm. Did you ask a member of the team for a bucket of ice as we would have been more than happy to provide one upon request? Unfortunately we do not have fridges in our bedrooms and this is not a requirement to be classified as a four-star hotel, nor is having complimentary bottles of water in the rooms. Furthermore, in our efforts to be more environmentally friendly we made the conscious decision to remove added waste materials from our accommodation (such as plastic water bottles). However, all of the water flowing through the taps throughout the hotel comes directly from our own personal well and makes for a lovely refreshment :) I'm disappointed to learn that you felt none of our starter options could be amended to cater for your dietary requirements, i.e., the Greek salad without the feta cheese, or the "deep south" chilli chicken wings without the blue cheese dressing. We do apologise for the mix-up on your steak order but we are glad to hear that Darren rectified this for you, along with organising your husbands complimentary dessert plate. I am also disheartened to learn of your disappointment with your room service breakfast. Had we have been made aware of your confusion with the milk our team would of happily of clarified which milk type was in each jug, but we do apologise that this was not made clear to you upon delivery to your room. In order to avail of the €20 dining credit associated with the Nearcation in Monaghan offer, it is clearly outlined that you must spend a minimum of €50 on food and present your vouchers (which were presented to you upon check-in) to avail of the same, plus the glasses of wine, to your servers at the time of ordering. Our food & beverage team members would not be privy to specific accommodation booking arrangements for GDPR reasons. We apologise this affected your experience with us, I do hope this will not deter you from visiting the hotel again in the future. If you do decide to revisit us, please ask for me directly and I’d be more than happy to see if there’s anything we can do to enhance your stay. Kindest wishes, Laura
