My husband and I stayed at the house hotel for one night in Galway in Feb 2024. I'm really glad it was only one night because the room we had would've quickly become uncomfortable. We booked a "delux" room with breakfast and wine as part of a February winter special. We got "upgraded" to a ground floor delux room which was part of the recently completed renovation. The great's: first off the location is awesome. We could walk everywhere in Galway and it was easy to get to public transit when we needed it. Even in the rain it was a great spot to be in. Also, the room we were in was very clean and was clearly recently redone. The shower was nice and the towel warmer was a nice touch. The not-so-greats: The room we had had a nice big floor to ceiling window. directly on the street. where we could hear everything. the road noise was quite loud until the middle of the night and if any people walked by you could hear their conversations. The window took up most of the wall and we needed to keep the curtains completely drawn even in daylight because we didn't want people on the street looking in on us. The room itself was TINY. Like I was expecting small. It's a city hotel. but the hotel we had in london had bigger rooms. There wasn't space to open our suitcases and walk which was really unfortunate. The room was poorly designed. I thought since it was brand new it would make more intuitive sense but it didn't. There was a desk with a mirror over it, but no outlet in the desk space to plug in the blow dryer. The outlets were under the TV, where there was no mirror. Also the general flow of the room didn't make sense. The bathroom was a nice size but where the towel rack was meant that you got the entire bathroom floor wet to get the towel. The door to get into the room was directly behind the fire door so we had to do an awkward dance to get in/out of the room. Check in was awkward. We arrived around noon and expected to not be able to get into our room but we wanted to leave our luggage. We were able to leave it right in the lobby which felt insecure. We got back to the hotel around 2:55 for the 3pm check in and the girl at the front desk told us we were too early to check in and we weren't able to check in until 3:20. It just felt strange because it's february in western Ireland, it wasn't a crazy day and there weren't a lot of other people waiting to check in. Breakfast was mediocre. I would not have paid 12 euros for it if i'd known the only fruit options were a fruit cup mostly of honeydew melon and the only egg option would be scrambled eggs. It was just underwhelming, especially after having such great hospitality in Ireland. Overall I'd stay here again but insist to not be in the ground floor rooms, or if I was in one then one that wasn't on the street. I think the older rooms are bigger and better laid out (just from what I've read in other reviews). I'm disappointed in the amount we spent to have a sub-par experience for a 4 star hotel but glad it was only one night and didn't ruin our trip.…

Beautiful hotel in the centre of Galway. The room was spotless and had a very large double bed. The bathroom was very nice. The lift is a bit slow. Breakfast was good, but choices were limited on hot breakfast. Staff were so friendly and very helpful. Only reason for 4 starts was construction work started up at 6am nearby and woke us each morning. But would definitely stay again and would recommend this hotel.

This was my third stay in this hotel. I had stayed here in Jan 23 and a number of years ago. In the space of a year the experience has changed and not for the better. The room was comfortable and check in straight forward. Booking over the phone was not straight forward with a member of staff telling me a room for 3 wasn't possible when in fact that's we had stayed in previously. Prices were also not matching what was offered on an email sent to us. The restaurant has now disappeared with a newly constructed wall where the restaurant once was. The breakfast, which used to be a highlight is now a mini buffet/fridge offering squished in beside and behind the reception desk. There is no service at breakfast with guests having to go behind the desk to make coffee from a machine in takeaway cups. Communal seating for breakfast is now in the lobby area or you can eat at lobby furniture.... not ideal... staff were all young and not particularly helpful. One customer beside me complained about the buffet being cold, which it was, and didn't receive much sincerity in the response. No manager was observed at any stage just very young staff with no one making an effort with customer service or guests. The hotel now looks neglected and I now won't be returning. The location of this hotel to the city centre is good but if there are other options available to book I'll be booking elsewhere. …

Myself and my wife stayed here, we arrived around 15.15pm the woman that checked us in (didn't get her name)she was so nice and very friendly towards us, we even got lovely treats for our anniversary in the room which was a lovely gesture 😊. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable, the bed was huge very comfy and the pillows were very nice. The bathroom was lovely, rainfall shower was fabulous. The hotel is so quiet, you wouldn't hear a sound we didn't hear nothing which is great. We had breakfast very tasty the two mornings, lots of choices, it was very relaxing atmosphere at breakfast the staff were lovely to us. The hotel is very close to everything, which was great. Would stay again great value for money also.

Excellent central location and parking is only a 5 minute walk away. With discount €8 a day not bad Nice rooms and really good information given at the reception of places to eat and drink with a map of the city Only reason it didn’t get a 5 was breakfast was ok but found long hair in the jam Plus when we arrived at the hotel it was 14:50 in the afternoon. Check is officially at 15:00 As I asked to check in the lady at reception said she can’t as I’m too early and she was too busy. She was dealing with one person Having travelled up from Cork and being 10 minutes early it seemed absolutely ridiculous to say this Especially as other hotels I’d stayed in on my trip in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Dublin and Cork I’d arrived early and some hours earlier than the official check in time and had no problems at all Luckily I’d had to go sort the car and park and come back so that took at least 10 minutes It would of been absolutely ridiculous to just stand there for 10 minutes It was a very poor first impression but the rest made up for it as the other staff were very helpful…

Dear PFC74 Thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay with us. We are so pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay overall, and thank you for your kind comments about our location, rooms and our team. I am so sorry to read that you found a hair in the jam at breakfast. As our jam is in sealed portions, I will be certain to speak to our supplier about this. I am also disappointed to see that you were unhappy with your check in experience. I can assure you that if rooms are ready ahead of our normal check in time, we are always very accommodating to our guests and allow early check ins - but we do not guarantee that rooms will be available before 3pm. I am pleased it was not an issue as you had to go and park your car in any case as you said. We hope that we can look forward to welcoming you back to the House Hotel again in the future. Kind Regards Fran Toomey Hotel Manager

we have used the house hotel for a good few years and always found it a good place to stay and relax in, but been loyal and regular customers did not matter when the unexpected happened. we were booked in to the house hotel for 2 nights 7th and the 8th jan , due to an accident on the night of the 7th ( which Had Nothing To do with the house hotel ) i broke my arm and after hospital treatment we had to go home on the morning of the 8th, i enquired about a refund or credit note for the 2nd night as we could not stay and was informed that reception phoned head office and was told this was not possible. we accept that is the policy of the hotel, but as regular customer of the house hotel i was not happy that no leeway was allowed in this case, i wish the hotel all the best for the new year , but sorry to say we will not use the hotel again . all the best…

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. My room was enormous, with so much space and beautifully decorated (which is always a nice touch). The hotel is located right at the harbour and a block from the Latin Quarter, so it’s very close to lots of restaurants and shops. The front desk were super friendly and helpful, and gave us some great restaurant recommendations for our stay.

The hotel is well located in Galway almost at the end of the pedestrian strip full of shops and restaurants. Parking in a public car park a short walk away and easy to access. Building work was still ongoing when we visited, but this was a minor issue, staff were great and checked us in earlier than the advertised time. Left our bags while we explored Galway. Room was great, small balcony off the room, comfortable and quite clean, however the room overall could do with an update (furniture was obviously of some age and in a mid 80’s style) and there were a few obvious maintenance issues that should be addressed. Aircon was a bonus as it was unusually warm in Ireland when we visited. Breakfast was served in the lobby, opted for a continental version, which was very generous and served with plentiful coffee and tea. Staff in training through the breakfast service, which is a bonus for the future of the hotel. Couple next to us opted for a hot breakfast which also looked very generous. Overall, our stay at the House Hotel was great, would return here if visiting Galway again. Central location, great food and staff and easy parking, big tick! …

We stayed for two weekday nights in a super deluxe room and the weekday rate price was really unbeatable. The hotel itself is cute and quirky and is located within reasonable walking distance to everything in the city, including the city bus terminal, and is in a nice location. Our room was HUGE, and we had a ton of sitting room and room to spread out, it was great. The room was clean, the tub was very nice and the shower was lovely. and I liked the cute owl painting in our room which sounds ridiculous but it was super cute haha. Bed was comfy and the room was a good temperature. We didn’t have any issues with street noise. The person running the front desk was very kind, cheerful and personable which was great to see and hear. Breakfast was not included but we did do breakfast on our last morning at the hotel and it was a small serve yourself Irish breakfast mini buffet and pre-wrapped (homemade) breakfast burritos and such that could also be taken to go. It was decent. The lobby is cute but the bar area seemed a little small and the attached restaurant didn’t really seem to be open. Late food and room service didn’t seem like an option during our stay but I wasn’t sure. The restaurant was possibly closed for renovations ? Thankfully there is plenty of late night take away in Galway, so it wasn’t a big deal. My only real suggestions would be to include a moisturizer in the bathrooms, I didn’t bring mine expecting that the hotel would have it and there wasn’t any in the bathroom. The only other thing as mentioned in some other reviews, is the bathroom door isn’t the most conducive to privacy. It did have a weird gap in it and well, thankfully we have been together for years so like it’s not a huge deal but might be for others. Not sure if every room is like that though. Also on another night we had zero issues as a same sex couple at this hotel and the friendly front desk person was fully aware of some of the drag happenings in the area. Overall a really nice and cozy stay in this cute little hotel and I wish we stayed in Galway longer. If we come back during another season we would stay here again.…
