Emerson House is a wonderful place to stay if ever visiting Cork city. I stay there at least twice a year when visiting family. Cyril the guesthouse owner is always so welcoming and makes everyone feel at home whether you are gay or straight. He is there 24/7 to advise guests on places to visit etc. and will sometimes sit... I stayed here for a week in November because I really like the location within walking distance of the City and I've been staying here on and off for the last 10 years and Cyril always gives me the front room on the first floor which is very quaint and I just love the view from the windows over the... I am not gay, not in the least. I enjoyed myself here because I met alot of hilarious people. The owner Cyril is friendly as is the rest of his entourage. The rooms are old and fairly well kept as the house is a heritage home and it is built like something Willy Wonka would dream up. The bathrooms are... More

We spent two nights in Cork on our recent trip around Ireland and found the Emerson House a most exceptional find. Our room was very spacious and had a wonderful view of the city, just a short walk away. Cyril was a most gracious host helping us find just the right night life and restaurants. Excellent choice. Friends and I decided to visit Cork for a birthday party and of course we searched gay accomodation. We were delighted we found Emerson House. The host Cyril was brilliant. His suggestion of a trip kayaking on the river, through the city center, was a highlight especially when we were escorted by dolphins on a glorious sunny afternoon. The large double... More

The owner, Cyril, was exceptionally pleasant and accommodating; he ensured that we were happy with everything in the room and even provided us with wine glasses. We particularly enjoyed chatting with Cyril as he provided historical knowledge as well as excellent advice about local clubs and pubs. We felt that the room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. We... More

The room was very unpleasant - dirty cups in the tea making area, hairs in the shower, water dripping outside the dirty window behind the bed, too much clutter that hadn't been dusted for years. We regret our stay and would advise the owner to do a deep clean as the musty smell throughout is overpowering. The website is misleading... More

We really enjoyed our stay here. Our host was very accommodating, knowledgable and even came to look for us when we got lost! The breakfast was wonderful and we appreciated the way we were made to feel welcome. More

Cyril was an excellent host, starting from when we made the booking, sending us detailed directions. (We didn't fully appreciate that courtesy until we spent an hour in Galway driving in circles trying to find the B&B we'd booked there.) We got the ground-floor room in the building next door (see photo of the bedroom), which included a large front/living/sitting... More

Cyril was absolutely a gem. He had so much tourist information to share and helped us planned our route and places to see. My room was okay but the bathroom was very disappointing, I didn't feel comfortable having my shower there and had to use my friend's shower instead. Cleanliness is very important to me having travelled widely this was... More
