Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As quoted, I booked and paid £130 for a 2-night stay in July 2024. The hotel replied to confirm the booking but for a slightly higher price of £138. When I queried this slight difference they said there was an error and that the price is now £600 for the 2 nights (£300 per night). Taken aback by this I telephoned Expedia who said the hotel should honour the original price. I followed this up by submitting an official "complaint" to Expedia in order to find out if in fact the hotel (or Expedia) is in any way obliged to honour the price quoted and now paid for. I trust this is not an unreasonable thing to do in the circumstances. When I told the hotel of my actions they replied, "Good for you. we are a small business trying to survive post covid and its a genuine mistake as all other properties available at that time are at the correct rates for the event. I wouldn't have you stay with me now if you offered £10k. Good luck. finding another hotel." Three problems here - they shouldn't have 1) quoted £130 in the first instance; then 2) compounded the mistake by subsequently acknowledging the booking for £138 (which might not be the £130, as quoted and paid for, but it's NOWHERE near the £600 they later asked me to pay); and 3) responded rudely and aggressively without justification.

I booked the “garden room” in early August. Website photos look ok. The “garden room” was basically a shed. No staff anywhere. We got a phone call the morning we arrived, apologising for there being no fridge or tv. They were “upgrading” the room. We decided to go ahead but asked for a small discount. The room had one chair and a small table with the mirror balanced on it and also held the kettle etc. no bin anywhere. The kettle wouldn’t fit under the bathroom tap. Both the toilet door and the closet door stuck and could not be fully closed. The one small window with a pull down blind, looked onto a rotting shed in the back garden. To get into the back garden, you had to put your shoulder to the gate to open it. We met other guests who had no means of entry at the front and no idea which room was theirs. No staff anywhere. I filled in their review and got no reply but then no payment was taken. Until today!! Out of the blue, the full amount was debited 3 months after the event, with no communication. DONT GO THERE.

Nice first house in great central location to all amenities. Hosts had keys ready when we arrived and saw ourselves to our top floor room. Room was small but adequate. In the morning they kindly allowed us to leave our biking gear whilst we went out for an hour. Lovely owners and lovely doggos. Would recommended for any short stay!

Requested sea view room when booked, emailed to double check we had sea view, no response, assumed wrongly we had. Arrived, collected keys stuck on front door. Room 2, no sea view at all, intact view over back alley. Emailed owner told sea view room booked, would have been nice if she'd told me when I booked. Very average room. Would not stay or recommend.

The location is great, the hosts are wonderful, the breakfast is a excellent way to start your day. If the scenic town of Ayr needed some way to improve its blend of charm and open beauty, then, this B&B is the extra touch. Rooms are clean, well appointed and comfortable. The town offers a beach that stretches kilometers from the breakwater to river mouth and the trail to the castle on the cliff. Town has many amenities and good restaurants. The people are typical Scots-friendly and Culzean Castle is a short bus ride up the road for a pleasant bus trip. Very close to Glasgow and rail and bus service to many destinations.
