Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is by far the worst place I have ever stayed in it really is a dreadful place , the female owner was that intoxicated she almost fell down the stairs, the room was dirty and smelt of ciggerettes the eating area was grubby with stains on the tables outside there were heroin addicts close by at the bus stop. Kilkerran guest house is a dirty doss house and I would advise anyone in their right mind to go nowhere near it.

AVOID!!!!! Booked through booking.com for 1 night stay with my husband and son. On arrival (7pm) was told UNFORTUNATELY no rooms left...... The woman smelt of drink and hd not denied when confronted. She wasn't sorry we were stuck with a child and no where to stay. Thankfully booking.com cancelled and refund but that doesn't cover the upset and stress she made.

The chaos began when we booked in via booking.com. After speaking to the landlady to confirm the details, she advised I cancel through booking.com and book in directly. It was all a bit weird. I then spoke to her a further two times to confirm, including 24 hours before arrival. On no occasion did I get a good feeling - I should have listened to this feeling. On arrival, we were told 'the cleaners had mucked up' and there was no room. Given there was a French family with a young child there being told the same thing, a Polish couple arrived shortly afterwards, and an elderly English couple who all got the same message, it feels a bit unlikely this was accidental. Our suspicion is that the existing guests decided to stay an extra night and paid extra. Meanwhile all those who had booked for that night were literally left outside in the rain trying to find another place. These are not good people, they are not honest or reliable. Don't stay with them.

Was a bit of a sh*t show, meant to have a double and single bed (me and 2 daughters) ended up with just a double. No shower gel, shampoo in bathroom when asked if any he came with a half bottle of shower gel 😅....WiFi didn't work....room was full of flies, musty not even a hairdryer. No mention of breakfast,no reception or real care shown. For one night I managed but never again. I've paid similar and had amazing experience other places .I'd avoid also one plug socket hanging off.

On visiting this guest house for an overnight stay we arrived to book in was handed key to our room told it was upstairs then left to go up ourselves. We got into room and tried to open window as it wouldn't open my son went downstairs to speak to owner who came upstairs clearly intoxicated as she kept banging the window to open it. It wouldn't open so she said she would go down and get her husband to come up but he never showed up. Also we were supposed to have free WiFi which we never got and also when we booked we were told breakfast was included but when we arrived we were told it would be 5.00 per person xtra. There was no reception no WiFi code I just felt when we asked the owner for help this was too much surely if u run a guest house you should be on hand most of the time. We arrived for breakfast but it was an entirely different person doing it then asked to pay when we left and were overcharged on the whole it was an unpleasant stay wouldn't recommend it to anybody

Having had to stay at Kilkerran Guest House for 4 nights at short notice, the owners were extremely welcoming & went way beyond expectations to assist me during a very difficult & stressful time. The guest house is very homely & I met good people here who I will be keeping in touch with, the room was comfortable, warm & very well priced for the personal attention that you just don’t expect or get at other branded hotels. Husband & wife team together with really lovely staff, in particular Debbie & Libby, make this an excellent place to lay your head. As well as the amazing breakfast ( so much better than the premier inn ), for just a £5, full cooked Scottish breakfast, hot buttered toast, cereals, fruit juice, tea, coffee & as I said the girls are lovely, chatty & made me feel very comfortable. I will be coming back here very soon & I highly recommend this guest house having been in the hotel business myself for 30 years. Thank you so very much Kilkerran Guest House. Xx

My aunt and uncle stayed here for 3 nights at the end of June. Unfortunately their stay wasn't very pleasant. The positives were that the staff were nice as were the breakfasts which were served fresh and hot each morning. However that's as far as the positives go I'm afraid. They had to come to my mums each morning to wash as there was no hot water their entire stay. The bedroom was cold and bedding of poor quality and very thin so that didn't help. The property is in dire need of updating and renovating. Unfortunately they won't be staying again and wouldn't recommend this guest house. Given 2 stars for the breakfast and staff.

We had the pleasure of staying at this bed and breakfast from Thursday to Sunday. Clean room, breakfast was fabulous and well worth paying the extra £5 for. Debbie was fantastic at hosting during breakfast and nothing was to much trouble for her, loved her sunny smile and great banter. We stayed in room 6. We hope to return in the future and we would definitely stay here again.

My partner, his 2 brothers and nephew had 2 rooms booked in this establishment last night. Upon arrival they were informed one of their rooms had been given away, and only 1 room was available which had 3 beds, the error had apparently occurred as the owners wife was in hospital. After this had been explained, the owners wife suddenly appeared on cruches and informed them that there was infact no room available for them at all. They had travelled from Glasgow for a gig and now had nowhere to stay as everywhere in Ayr was fully booked. Absolutely appalling, abysmal service. Would not recommend.
