This is the second time I have stayed here, the last time was three years ago. Quite a lot has changed, it’s had a bit of a face lift. One thing that’s not changed is the helpfulness of the staff (thank god). The room was clean, tidy and warm. Breakfast was a bit of a let down, the sausage was... More

We stayed at this hotel during our trip to Scotland. This hotel needs renovations on an urgent basis. We were told that it was a NON SMOKING hotel but we kept smelling cigarette smoke in our room (not during the night). Our room was in the back of the hotel and we believe that we were just over the kitchen.... More

Lets put this into perspective, the hotel has ongoing refurb and this had to be taken into account. Our room had been recently refurbished and was done to a good standard with new carpets which were very fluffy underfoot. Bed was very comfy and toilet was adequate if a bit "tight". We never ate dinner but breakfast was good with... More

Many thanks for your comments. I am glad you enjoyed your stay overall. Unfortunately at the time of your stay the Hotel was fairly quiet and as you say the time of year means the town itself is not yet into the summer season hence the bar being quieter. I look forward to seeing you when you are next in... More

This hotel is in the middle of being upgraded but we were very happy with the level of service from the staff, especially the female receptionist/manager who allowed us to keep our touring bikes in the room. The Royal really gets it right with the way the staff are trained and you feel looked after.

I often stayed at this hotel last year and have just spent my first night since it re-opened. I have to say I am very impressed by what has been done, especially all the new carpets. On getting to my room I found the way they had "dressed" the beds with throws and cushions lovely. Curtains are great and glad... More

Nice room everything clean and although old furniture it all works. Carpets and beds seem new and they have gone modern with the throws and cushions on the beds I think for the price you could not ask for a better room Friendly staff and they do seem to care. I would stay again.

We had heard that they recently had a major renovation from our tour director, but saw no evidence of it. Rooms were worn, could not get to room on a lift without several sets of stairs even after using lift/elevator. This hotel needs remodeling, very 'tired'. Many, many fire doors and elevation changes within our floor; it was like walking... More

We stayed 2 nights and didn't get any sleep. The bar was open all night until 4:30 am. We called the front desk on numerous occations but, got no reply. Eventually we got through to the night porter on his mobile. He did say that he would shut the bar and stop the music and people singing. We waited for... More

The only hotel within my budget in Thurso. Arrived around 19:00 and went in the rear entrance from the car park. Wow!! It was warmer outside than in the stairwell/corridor and to say the hotel had been refurbished and this was the first night open following this, well. The decor had clearly not has a look in. Up two flights... More

Ok the bad things first: The furniture and decor in the room was worn out and out of date. It was not clear and very difficult to turn the shower off. Lack of tea, coffee and milk provided in the room, I actually got much more in a cheaper bed and breakfast a few days before in Inverness. The TV... More
