This is a hidden gem but right on Princes Street. The Castle and Gardens are right across from it! Nice food in the Restaurant which also overlooks the Castle. There is free WiFi and soon you will be able to catch a new Tram outside the front door - not sure where it will take you though? Good value and... More

The staff are lovely, except one waiter which was a shame. The hotel was formerly and still is partly a club and has that atmosphere. The decor and carpets are getting a bit tired but the hotel is very clean. My room looked onto the gardens and the castle, perhaps a discount could have been offered as there was scaffolding... More

With a gentleman's club on the first floor, this is a solid, beautiful building with fabulous views, over the road to Edinburgh's Castle and it's 'crag and tail' site. The rooms are traditionally styled, and clean with all facilities -central heating(it is Scotland!) tea, coffee, bottled water and TV - good en suite bathroom, fabulous breakfast and even better dinner... We used an itison voucher. When I see this offer I always buy a few as it is an excellent deal. The dining room is bright with a wonderful view to the Castle. Excellent choices from the menu, the food is fresh hot and delicious. the drinks are reasonably priced. The staff are professional and friendly. Have also had afternoon... More

We have family in Edinburgh and visit at least 4 times a year. Without question this has to be one of the worst hotels we have ever had the misfortune to stay in. The reception staff were miserable, scaffolding blocked all views of the castle, most bizarrely we never saw another person in the hotel until we went for breakfast... More

Thank you for your review Tallulah52. I'm shocked that you have said its the worst place you have ever stayed in and that the staff were miserable. Recently we have received a Certificate of Excellence award for 2013 and we receive compliments every day how great our customer service is. (I'm not delusional by the way). Please read the other... We asked for a view of the castle which we got, however, the bedroom window was tiny and difficult to see anything through. The bathroom window was bigger but the scaffolding was in front of it and at 8:30am the workers reported for duty and started working right in front of it and began hammering away! Surprise! The shower has... More

Only 5 minutes walk from Waverley Station and on Princes Street, this is a brilliant place to stay. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the staff helpful and pleasant and the restaurant excellent for both breakfast (lots of choice and freshly cooked) and dinner. The views of the castle from the restaurant are superb and the level of the cuisine... More

We had our wedding here a few weeks ago and stayed in the Ramsay Suite on the night of the wedding and the Saturday night too. What a view! Everything was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The meal was superb and everyone has said how good the buffet was. The breakfasts were really good also. Can't... More

Even though the hotel is being refurbished - we had a great view of the castle but we couldn't see much out of the window - it was a lovely spacious twin room, clean crisp bedlinen and big white towels..... Breakfast on the first day wasn't great but was much improved the second morning. Lots of choice though - The... More

We stayed at the ROSL in December,2012 when Edinburgh was in the grip of (being from the South coast) arctic conditions. We were supplied with a convector heater as the radiators were not working which made the air very dry but was warm enough. The breakfast was ok, though not as good as last time I stayed and if you... More
