Since travelling to europe is decidedly dodgy at the moment I went of nearest next best thing... A trip to Scotland. The hotel is nicely situated close to Haymarket station and a short walk into the city itself. Tram and Bus stops are also in easy distance. The room was very basic and not what I thought I booked. It was a little noisy too as it was located at the foot of the stair to the upper floors. The only problem is that the hotel took two payments for the same stay 6 weeks apart. I've contacted them by phone and email, but refuse to engage in any sort of conversation to why this has occurred. As you can understand I simply can't recommend this hotel at all even though it's nicely situated for the city. It would be interesting to know if this a common occurance or a one off, though in all my travlling I've never ever encountered anything like this before.

We booked to stay at this hotel for 5 days starting on NYE. Three days before our arrival ( flying there from the South Coast) . I had a phone call from Arizona from Hotels.com to say Piries could not honour our booking ( we paid £472) , as it was CLOSED ! They had moved us to another hotel out of town. The reason I picked our original hotel was because it was near town , and ideal as I cannot walk very far. I phoned the hotel themselves to complain about this , and was told the hotel had needed to let the rooms out to GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS. Never mind us phlebs ! The person on duty promised the manager would ring me the next day and he DID NOT . Eventually I got another call from Phoenix, Arizona and they said they would give us a full refund, thank you. Bizarrely, they offered us a £100 voucher off of a further stay at this hotel, as if ! Very , very poor customer service. All the Piries Hotel had to do, was call me themselves and apologise , not pass it around. Very disappointing, our New Year will now be spent at home. DO NOT use Hotels.com to book this hotel, and you cannot book it anyway without using a booking agent. Customer service , non existent !

This hotel is in a great location and is a short walk into Edinburgh town centre. At the hotel itself, the staff were friendly, the rooms were clean and the stay was very pleasant. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and stay again in the future.

The room was small but decent enough, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean. Unfortunately the light shone through the gaps in the door frame and there was a stock cupboard opposite our room. A member of the nightshift team decided to move crates of beer at 4am which woke us up twice with the locking and unlocking of the cupboard 2 times and the clanging of bottles which wasn’t very pleasant. The rest of the staff were lovely and the breakfast was nice.

After reading bad reviews I struggle to agree with anything that has been said. This is hotel is lovely and clean, the staff are very pleasant as well. The hotel is in an perfect location for the city centre, you can either take a 15min walk, or hop on the tram at the end of the road. All in all, the room is very nice with a comfy bed and warm heating, what else could you want considering you only need the room to sleep ! Would definitely book again and come back !

After reading some of the negative reviews below, I thought I would leave my review. We had a 2 night stay here knowing full well we had booked into a budget hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised. People forget that you get what you pay for. I cant understand why some of the below comments have been so nasty. The hotel is fine and the staff are lovely. Yes the standard rooms are small and yes some of the decor is dated. Everything in the room worked fine, bed and pillows were comfy, my only complaint would be cleanliness. Which wasn’t terrible but could be better. I would come again just in the basis that the staff are brilliant

Some staff quite rude. No breakfast if you’re a vegetarian even though you’ve prepaid & no information is available on booking regarding dietary requirements. The room was absolutely shocking, damp, nowhere for clothes to be stored, pillows were stained, blocked shower, trip hazard of a carpet & absolutely freezing to name only a few of the issues we encountered. If I could have given this a zero in my review then I would have. We did ask for a move but hotel was full. Looked to get another hotel & none available at such short notice unless we booked into the Sheraton or the likes!

Dear Z7829LXjulieg, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. We arrived for 4 nights 25th - 29th October, our party consisted of 3, which included a child. Before arrival we emailed the hotel requesting a first floor room, which we were allocated on arrival. They were rooms 31 (twin) 34 (double) Room 31 overlooks the front and was noisy due to the traffic and inconsiderate guests. Maybe hotel should remind guests about banging doors and chatting loudly when arriving late (After midnight) Although the doors do have rather strong door hinges, and practically shut themselves.Room 34 was overlooking the rear and was fairly quiet if not small. Although again I was disturbed by guests returning after a late night out ( 2.30am onwards) not the hotels fault. The bathroom was clean and functional, with plenty of hot water both in the tap and shower. No room servicing, but as there are Covid restrictions still in place, I did not expect it. No complaints. We found a few local restaurants, not too far away, Platform 5 was part of the Green King group, and the food on offer was of good quality, also had breakfast here on 3 occasions. Excellant value. Mr Bashrai's was a restaurant in a shopping Mall ( we took an Uber) and for £15.95 was "Eat as much as you like" which consisted of all sorts of Asian and English food on offer. Excellant quality too. My 12 year old grandson thought he was in food heaven. Anyway, back to the hotel, we only saw reception staff, but they were very obliging and helpful. We did sample a few drinks from the bar, which also doubles up as the breakfast room, we didn't find it very comfortable. Personal opinion. Overall we had a very pleasent stay considering the price we paid, I probably would stay again in the future if I ever came to Edinburgh again. Decent location for loads of places.

Just returned from a three night stay here and we were actually really pleased with it all, despite some of the more negative reviews. We found the staff really friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was a small one but the high ceilings made it feel spacious and we were able to sleep with the window open all night, with no noise from the street or busy nearby Haymarket. Our family had a bigger suite which was enormous with original features; a nice room to chill out in too after a long day of walking around this beautiful city. Is the Piries a bit tired around the edges? Maybe. But we found it clean, safe and accommodating… and excellent value for money. Huge thank you to the staff for your warm welcome and help..

did not get the room we asked for, refused to refund/take money off, staff were inconsiderate to medical and health conditions, we did not feel safe and secure here, the rooms are minuscule and freezing, they do not clean the rooms between guests, evident by there being crumbs pills and filth in out room, the floors and walls are paper thin and we could hear everyone’s conversations through them, their downstairs rooms are dingy and dark, would not recommend staying here
