We stayed in a 'double' room at the hostel in mid-May and although the place is in a great location and in a building with some character the double rooms (or at least the room we had) are very small. I realise it's a hostel, not a hotel, but there was no hanging space, nowhere to put bags so we... More

This hostel was great! For a start it is basically next to Edinburgh Castle, you couldnt ask for a better location! The hostel is cool and quirky, with lots of suits of armour and murals on the walls. The staff on the desk when we arrived were really friendly and everything is well organised. We had a double private room... More

I've been there just after being in other hostels in 2 different countries at that time my expectatives after what i've seen in those hostels were very low but it was just amazing! The people at frontdesk is very kind and nice, rooms are clean and tide just as the bathrooms and showers; and the location it's great!!!

I stayed in a ten bed mixed dorm here. With that many people, the chances of someone coming home drunk at 5am or having to wake up at 6am increases. And that is what happened to me. I now prefer 4 and 6 bed dorms. But my bed here was very cheap, so can't complain too much. The self catering... More

I stayed here quite recently and had a very pleasant stay for one night. The hostel itself feels like it is built into the rock and is a bit of a maze (I got lost trying to find the exit more than once!). The rooms aren't as bad as the bad reviews make out- they do smell a bit but... More

Like in a castle, The location is great, two steps from the Royal mile. Rooms are very good. Atmosphere is nice ! I highly recommand this place. Next time I come by, I'll Stay there. rooms are large, people do snore, and i was not enthusiastic about the choice in breakfast... However, all the rest is good: infrastructures, service, rooms for internet or reading, names on the bed... and location is just awesome, at the foot of the castle. For the price paid, you can't get better.

I stayed at Castle Rock Hostel for three nights during a bank holiday weekend so the place was very busy. I absolutely loved this hostel. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful and could provide directions to just about anywhere. The rooms were very clean and so were the washrooms. The lounges were so much fun and had... The Castle Rock Hostel is a great base for exploring Edinburgh and the surrounding region, great location next to the castle and the royal mile, grassmarket and greyfriars only a short walk away. The rooms are pretty good with a great view out the window. Breakfast was only £1.50. I'd stay here again.

I had a great time while staying in Castle Rock. The hostel is medieval style ,awesome, huge, clean, and full of friendly travelers and amazing staff. I didn't have any kind of problem or stress there. Caz , Seamus ( I hope that is right), Cris and all the people that work there make you feel at home. I made... More
