Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have stayed at the Clarence many times over the last 15 years. It has been a family run business for decades. Now run by Michael Slevin , he seeks to ensure that the needs of his guests are well catered for.

we stayed two nights at Clarence House, we received a warm welcome and the accommodation was very comfortable. We have been fortunate to have travelled a reasonable amount over the years and always seek out accommodation in old pubs etc that have character and charm. Clarence had all of the characteristics that we enjoy. Old world comfort and charm, our room was very comfortable and clean, simple things like additional coffee and sugar, not the standard 2 coffee and 4 sugar, if you wanted milk you were given a small jug with fresh milk. When it comes to your breakfast, forget lunch for the day, I can say with confidence that it was one of the best breakfast services I have ever had. Lovely dining room, it was like going back in time to the 1940, white linen tables set beautifully and a great buffet. We enjoyed our stay there and will definitely stay there again if we head back to Derry, Brendan and Denise Buck Harvey Western Australia

Michael, the owner, is the reason to stay at Clarence house. An engaging and personable host, he's quite the conversationalist and will make sure you have whatever you desire to make your trip a good one. I arrived at Clarence house when the B&B I was original set to stay in ended up being over booked. I showed up on my bike and Michael escorted me down to the space where he secured the bike. It was comforting to know the bike was secure for my stay. The two nights I spent in town were entertaining, and I felt happy to have Clarence House as my home base. My room on the ground level was clean and spacious. I tried turning on the TV the first night and it didn't work. I didn't bother mentioning this to Michael because I was more interested in bed after a long day than in watching TV. Well, the next day when I came back and picked up my key, he asked why I didn't let him know that the TV wasn't working, and that he replaced it. That level of service, going above and beyond to make sure his guests are comfortable, is what makes Clarence House special.

My family and I had the pleasure of staying at Clarence House during our recent visit to Londonderry. The owner/operator Michael Slevin was a great host and treated us to many fun and interesting stories. The breakfast was great and the rooms very comfortable. The tour he gave through Donegal was very enjoyable as he showed us areas we never would have visited on our own. My grandfather came from Northern Ireland and I was keen to experience the country side he may have walked in his youth, and Michael's tour helped me reach this goal. A beautiful country indeed! If you are planning a stay in Londonderry definitely give Clarence House a call. Thanks again Michael for your hospitality, and introducing me to a proper Irish Guiness! S. Bowen

I would just like to thank Michael for is her warm and genuine hospitality at Clarence House. I was made to feel right at home and nothing was too much for Michael to help, it's perfectly suituated and walking distance to bars, restaurants and quayside. the room was extremely comfortable and had everything that you needed, not to mention a brilliant Irish breakfast, I will be back to Derry regular and will be using and recommending Clarence House.

My second time staying here. My wife's 3rd time, with students from the U. S. Mr. Slevin, the proprietor, is an amazing host. Tea and sandwiches on our arrival late on a Monday evening. The students had many choices of cities and countries they could have visited but Ireland will be fondly remembered, in large part, due to the kindness and hospitality shown to all by Michael Slevin at the Clarence House! You will enjoy your stay!!

I had the very best time in Clarence House. Michael, the owner was very helpful and caring making shure I felt welcome and at home in Derry. Clarence House is close to the city centre with its many great pubs and restaurants. The rooms are comfortable and Michael makes the best irish breakfast you'll find. From the balcony, you'll have a beautiful view of the city. Overall, I had a great and authentic experience and would recommend everybody to stay at lovely Clarence House! - Gottfried D, Germany

This has to be the best guest house in Derry, it is even recommended by Charlie Landsboro, who has stayed here many times in the past. There is a bedroom called the Landsboro suite.High praise indeed, you will have a very good time here as the owner,Michael Slevin will do everything in his power to make sure you are comfortable.Clarence House is only a few hundred yards from the centre of town and the nightlife, there are a few shops in the immediate vicinity where you can stock up on the little things, such as cigarettes, papers, sweets etc; Meals are good and there quite a few good restaurants nearby if you fancy eating out.Visit sometime you will not be disappointed.

I spent two wonderful weeks at the Clarence House in May 2012 and was treated with true Irish hospitality. I slept in Room 6 on the third floor. My room was well decorated and very spacious with a nice LCD TV to catch up on BBC news at night. Michael Slevin, the innkeeper at Clarence House is a very kind man, he took very good care of me and my friends. Every morning I was welcomed to a HUGE Irish breakfast with every breakfast food I could imagine... The tea and coffee were so wonderful and the quality and choices could not be beat. The highlight of my day was to come down to breakfast, drink my coffee and listen to the radio Michael would play. Michael spent so much effort into my breakfast and cleaning my room (once in the morning and again around 5pm for turn down service). I was very impressed! If you are looking for an authentic Irish experience with a great Irish breakfast, this is the place for you! If you are looking for white glove service and something similar to a Hilton... Then GO to a Hilton! The Clarence House is owned and operated by a homeowner, therefore, you are a guest in his home. Treat Michael with some respect, and he will do the same. I have nothing but great things to say about Michael. I would highly recommend to anyone staying in Derry to stay at The Clarence House. I look forward to staying there again on my next trip to Derry!

I was lucky enough to stay in the Landsborough Suite at the Clarence House and I have to say, this has been one of the best experiences in a bed and breakfast I've ever had. The keep, Mr. Slevin is kind and humorous and will go out of his way to help when asked. Mr. Slevin prepares a full Irish breakfast every morning and cleans the rooms meticulously every day. He even took me and 3 other guests on a personal tour of the area, seeing a fort built in 300 B.C., Donegal and a lovely island called Inch Island. The accommodations are well kept and clean and absolutely stunning in the way they're set up. I HIGHLY recommend this B&B to anyone and everyone.
