Have just spent a week at The Stables, which is now self catering. The accomodation was excellent, two large bedrooms - both with ensuite bathrooms, dining area and cosy lounge. Located close to the main section of Hadrians Wall in the heart of the village of Bardon Mill the cottage is a fantastic place to stay and explore Northumberland. Two large en-suite bedrooms one with a bath/shower and one with a wet room. Spacious lounge with open plan kitchen and separate dining room with views over the fields. Multi-fuel fireplace using stone from Alston quarry is the centerpiece of the cottage.Previously stables for 3 horses the cottage stands adjacent to Montcoffer's main house, the lounge was actually the old foaling shed. There are several walks directly from the cottage one over the South Tyne river to the ancient church of Beltingham and further on the gorgeous circular walks at Allenbanks and Plankey Mill managed by The National Trust. ... more less
