Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Location was amazing, Wifi never work. The lady receptionist was so kind. Last day 19/01 the guy receptionist was rude seems working in fish market. Overall stay was fine except wifi and the 1 unprofessional receptionist behaviour.

It is my firm opinion that attentive, responsive, supportive personnel and management can ensure the success of a business. This is the target that Dover Castle Hostel are achieving, from my point of view. I found this hostel inviting and cheerful, a result not easy to attain in London’s hospitality competitive market during the low season, when the weather is bad. I arrived at the property on a rainy weeknight, worried about the quality of the accommodation. Cold and rain can stir up trouble, only the best lodging establishments are always lively, some others have dirty linen to wash in private. Nobody likes to sleep in a run down, lifeless, uninspiring bedroom, whatever their gender, age, body type, cultural background and so forth, but according to guests’ feedback in the whole of Europe it occurs sometimes. It happened to me years ago, I read the description of a hostel on the web, watched the pictures and gave it a go, but when I walked into my room I realised that it was so mouldy, decayed and desolating that it couldn’t have been suitable to an average traveller like me but only to people who would have slept there for a really cheap price or to be used as a storage room. Nonetheless Dover Castle Hostel was shining brightly, all the rooms I visited were in good shape, all facilities were cleaned and serviced regularly and there was a relaxed, sociable vibe. In particular, the online advertisements faithfully reflect what I experienced, none of the hostel features is misrepresented as it occasionally happens throughout Europe. Communication and understanding of guests are keys that open many doors.

Stayed this place on 20/ 8/2022 for one night what a mistake , arrived around nine at night , checked in , he took my driving licence of me said it was for key securities incase i lost the keys . went up to dorm wee someone had just left my bunk , bedding nott changed so went down reception to ask for it been done . went strait to bed woke up 6am never left the hostel , couldnt find the door key, i then went to reception to tell him i couldnt find the key so he said i owe them £10 pounds or i wouldnt get my driving licence back . I then threatened to call the police , he gave me my licence backand threw me out onto the streetat 6 am siad i wouldnt be allowed to stay there again . isnt there a law against someone taking your licence . In all i spent nine hrs in that hostel , thats was sleeping . I believe they had the key and didnt return it to me , just to get £10 from me . And i believe i left it at the reception when asking him to change the bedding . I would advise anyone not to stay there . Very nasty peice of work

I wasn’t impressed with the hostel. The first thing that I encountered was that there were no elevators, each floor being two flights of stairs. I decided to take a room on the second floor to avoid climbing the many stairs. Unfortunately, it was just above the pub which meant no sleep until after 2:00am. Another area where they came short was that there were only 2 shower stalls, one toilet and one sink on each floor to be shared among 20 guests per floor. You had to time your bathroom breaks just right if you wanted to use any of these.

Me and my friend stayed in the hostel for a night. Everything was perfect but most of all the receptionist named LUIS. So kind and talkative person. Full of energy, trying to give his services to everyone at the same time and he was doing it fine!!! Also the blonde guy with the piercings truly kind, smiling all the time. U should be these 2 guys more!!!

Visited Dover Castle Hostel with 5 friends. Good value for the amount of money we spent. A bar beneath the hostel was a big plus for us. The Borough is a fun neighbourhood to stay in. Recommended for travelling students.

WORST HOSTEL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! I was scammed out of money at this place, charged for nights I was NOT staying. My credit card was charged and I was told I would be receiving a refund after leaving this place because there was mice running through the rooms, old men sleeping in the beds while we are young female travelers, unclean bathrooms with blood all over the toilet seat. Nobody has returned my calls which leads me to wonder what type of establishment this place was. I am hoping somebody from the hostel sees this so they can see what type of service they are providing and I hope future visitors see this to stay CLEAR OF THE DOVER CASTLE HOSTEL

Location, friendliness of staff, free breakfast are the biggest perks of this hostel. We were out sightseeing so didn't spend much time at the hostel. There are limited showers and bathrooms so plan accordingly - most of the time there was a wait in the morning. Also, they request a deposit to use everything like towels, hair dryers, and lockers. I had an early flight so I was stuck with £25 that I didn't have time to use.
