Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is a bit on the funky side. If you are used th American style hotels, this might not be the one for you. My wife and I like our stays to be a bit more rustic. The bathroom was spacious with a big old bathtub and a cool sink. The hotel is across the street from Hyde Park which makes it in walking distan to Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the Thames and the London Eye. It's very accessible by tube to Paddington Station.

A beautiful and grand colonnaded building right opposite the Italian water gardens in Kensington gardens. The hotel has a sense of history and feels slightly magical with its majestic floor to ceiling windows, quirky bars, and sweeping staircases. We stayed three nights in a triple room. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was cleaned and made up daily. The bathroom had a seventies vibe, good pressure in the shower and everything you might need. The location is outstanding, really easy to get around London either from Lancaster Gate tube which is a three minute walk, or Paddington. All the staff we met where helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay there again, it’s a special place.

I had my 60th birthday in the Regency suite, about 90 people. We had the most amazing evening in one of the many fabulous rooms with a huge balcony looking over Kensington gardens. The staff were fabulous and they ran a bar and provided food for our guests, the most delicious spread. We stayed the night in one of the lovely rooms. It is such a central spot, such a glamorous place to stay at such a reasonable price. The hotel is slowly being renovated with a new lift coming. I love the building and the glamour of the space.

We stayed at the Hotel as part of a birthday celebration. We were really pleasantly surprised by the hotel. When you know the low price ( for a London stay) you assume it will be a bit grotty! not here. Downstairs is stylish, roomy, and very relaxed. Our room was spacious, and clean. Dated, but that added to its charm. The linen crisp, the bed comfy. Some of our party drove, and could park outside for a very low fee, which was extreamly welcome. Hyde park is opposite, the location is fab. Think faded charm, and roll with it.

Charming, great-value hotel in beautiful location. Yes it's old but that's part of it's charm. Comfortable beds and linen and towels spotless. Staff are fab and its dog friendly too! Love the grand staircase and noticed a new lift is being installed.

Looks good from the outside. On entry it is obviously an imposing building but there seems to be quite a lot of work needed to make good. The reception was good and efficient. Modern lock on the room which was small but clean. Bathroom looked very tired but worked. Shower was really strong force. Water cold late afternoon but very hot in the morning. Coffee was good, bed comfortable. Left early and saved money with breakfast in a cafe.

Despite the very friendly staff, our stay was rather disappointing. The dusty and creaky room smelled very musty (we slept with the window open, even if it wasn't recomended and it currently is February), the claustrophobic khaki-green bathroom was littered with repaired tiles and despite the presence of a bath, it did not invite you to use any of the sanitary facilities. During breakfast we were only given knives meant to cut air and water, let alone to handle the croissants and rolls. We were denied an adequate knife, even if we wanted to cut an apple. However, we were pleased with the location and the view of Hyde Park was very inviting.

Worst Hotel We ever Stayed at.Lobby was kind of okay but the rest of the Hotel was Like The Pits.Hallways and bedrooms have a Rotten Musty Smell.Hotel and Bedroom interior hasnt been updated in atleast 50 Years,Probably not cleaned in the same space of time either. The Lift was the oldest and filthiest one We ever seen and it had stains on the carpet floor of it from what looked like a mix of vomit and s**t that was never cleaned.Travelled from Ireland for three Nights with The Other Half In December 2023 for a Christmas weekend break but only stayed one Night in this Kip.We only stayed because we arrived late and had nowhere else to go.Left the next day out of pocket and stayed at a nicer Hotel in Paddington for less Money.Wouldnt reccomend The Columbia Hotel for anything other than to be Demolished!!

A real lousy hotel. The smell at the room was awful, bathroom really old and you did not really want to shower. Lamp was broken in room and immediately changed to a lamp without a shade! Breakfast is really awful. Coffee so thin that it’s coloured water

The staff is so friendly. Good location with bus outside. Go out of their way to help and accommodate you. Not far from Paddington station. Short walk. Lots of places to eat in the vicinity. Taxi To station only £8. A few renovations are getting done on the place but no disturbance
