Rachel welcomed us with tea and had everything set up for us already. The rooms are nicely appointed and have very nice views over the valley. Having access to a large bathroom after a long day of hiking did wonders. Rachel also provided us with key recommendations for dinner and the next day's hike. We departed with a hearty breakfast. We stayed at GILLERCOMBE whilst undertaking the coast to coast walk. We were welcomed by Rachel with tea and a lovely selection of biscuits. The rooms aren't ensuite but the facilities are good and immaculately clean. Rachel was very helpful with our wet boots and coats and they were dry by morning. We were asked what time we wanted breakfast... More

There seems to be two opposing views on this B&B judging by the reviews to date - and as a seasoned B&B user, I am firmly in the positive camp. First, if en suite facilities are essential for you, then avoid - simply because there are none. They usually rate highly on my list but the facilities are good otherwise... More

I arrived at this haven with 3 other kiwis and our friendly hostess presented us with a nice cup of tea and biscuits. We stayed the one night on our coast2coast journey. Very homely place in a peaceful setting. Nice bright bedroom with shared bathroom, very clean. Our hostess made us very welcome, as did her right hand man [pet... More

This is the ladies house and she keeps it to a very high standard. Take time to have a chat to the owner as she has had a very interesting life which will surprise you. More

We actually stayed in the camping field thats about two hundred yards away that she also own and although the toilets are really really rough in the camping field, on passing her on the early morning, we were very promptly offered and delivered a much needed cup of tea and 2 packed lunches for the journey. Thanks for being so... More

I stayed at this b+b in september 2010 whilst walking the coast to coast. Sadly after a hard day walking in rain from Ennerdale I did not find Rachel welcoming, just in a hurry to take any wet items away so they did not get into the bedrooms. She would not let me put newspaper in my boots and when... More

Stayed here one night as part of our Coast to Coast walk in July 2010. Nice and Clean room with lovely views of the garden and the fields surrounding it. We found the owner friendly and interesting to talk to. Breakfast was quite good, but not enough toast. We did not have a cooked breakfast, and had to go and... More

Stayed here as part of our Coast to Coast walking trip in June 2010. It wasn't one of the better places we stayed. It's a lovely location in Borrowdale and convenient for reaching pubs in Rosthwaite and in Stonethwaite. Good points were a nice breakfast and a good packed lunch. However it only has one bathroom for 7 guests (and... More

We stayed in 14 B&B's and lodges, each for one night, during our Coast to Coast walk in autumn 2009. Winner was the Keld Lodge. At the bottom was Pottergate in Richmond. Is it fair to rank a place on the basis of one night? Perhaps not, but first impressions sometimes mean a lot. Gillercombe B&B ranks number 3 on... More
