Ate here on our last night, whilst staying at the Kings Arms. Great food,( and cheaper than the Kings Arms) friendly staff and locals, and dog-friendly bar area. Good selection of Lakeland real ales. Will spend more time here next time we're in Hawkshead! More

The Red Lion is a great place to stay. It was our first visit to the pub and hopefully won’t be our last. All the staff are so friendly and cheerful and nothing is too much trouble. Our room (No.4) was very clean and homely with an excellent en-suit shower and fresh towels every day. The meals were excellent with... More

This pub/guest house gets better and better. It used to be very poor until the latest couple took it over about three years ago and wow what a difference. Food is now excellent espically if you like a hearty meal after a long walk. Bar is warm and friendly, log fire and good atmosphere. The only downside was no wifi.... More

We stayed in Hawkshead for 3 nights and had a meal in the Red Lion and a few drinks. The land lady was more than accommodating when I didn't want dairy in my food and changed the menu to suit my needs. Always grateful for this. Nice food and friendly pub. More

We called in at the weekend for a couple of drinks, great traditional pub, has very good offer on rooms with evening meal (only £40 pp) unfortunately we had booked in at The Queens Head next door which was terrible I know where I will stay on my next visit to Hawkshead More

Everytime myself and my fiance go for a weekend to Hawkshead, we only stay at the red lion inn. Have known Lynn and Paul for a while, and they are perfect hosts, always friendly and welcoming. The ales are delcious as well as the food, which is home cooked. Breakfasts are to die for and very filling. The wonky-donkey floors... More

We stopped for 3 nights in early August having previously been very impressed with the Red Lion. Thankfully it hadn't changed and was still a lovely place to stay. The food is fantastic - good proper food, well cooked and very tasty. The steak and ale pie in particular is highly recommended! There is a good selection of well kept... More
