My pal and I stayed here for her birthday last year and what a dreadful experience. Firstly, the entrance was covered in the dust, and the reception area was filthy. Our room was shabby and unkempt and the beds were really uncomfortable, so much so that as my friend's mattress sloped at an angle, she had to cling on to... More

We booked our company Christmas night out in Canterbury, our staff chose the modern hotel, my wife and i vouched for the authentic option "Cathedral Gate Hotel," probably the worst decision we have ever made in our lives! it totally ruined our company night out. When i booked the manager told me we would have a view of the Cathedral,... More

Our experience was the same if not worse than Kay B's. We paid 150 pounds for a run-down, cramped room which "slept 4". It was dimly lit room, carpet was filthy, cold showers, tattered linens and furniture was so rickety, it would make a youth hostel look like a luxury resort. We are hearty travellers and can overlook "rustic" places, but... More

On seeing the front door and entrance I had a horrible feeling it was going to be bad and how right I was. It was dirty and very run down the place seems to be run by bored students who couldn't care less when you complain. Worse to come when we were shown to a tatty run down room with... More

The hotel staff were very nice, although the stairs to get to your rooms were something else, I had the top floor and the final few stairs had to be taken almost on your hands and knees. They would be no good for anyone with any health issues at all, To enter the hotel you needed to climb a flight... More

The hotel needs a total makeover. Whilst the location is perfect it is a disgrace in 2011 that hotels of this calibre can a. still exist and b. charge over £100 for the pleasure. The standard of hotel nowadays is high in the UK and Ireland, this one is like something from 1970......this place is owned by the Church who... More

Firstly on line booking hadn't registered at their end though I'd had emailed confirmation so was eventually given another room with three beds not two as requested. Hotel appears to be run by undertrained disinterested foreign students who give you "I'm only here for two months when you have a complaint. Room dirty and poorly decorated, furniture falling apart, no... More

At the end of August I took two days out from a work trip to Britain to make a pilgrimage to one of the very few places I could find on the net that had real English animals like "Ratty" the water vole and Badger, ie the Wildwood just outside Canterbury. Of course Canterbury is a traditional place of pilgrimage... More

Stayed here for one night, sharing a room with two others, and we didn't have an ensuite bathroom, nor was there a shower in the shared bathroom which must've been shared between 8-10 people. The hotel was overpriced for the lack of basic hotel amenities. However the location could not have been more central but this does not justify the... More
