Stayed here in November last year. Had originally booked the City Gate, just around the corner from St Olaves, but they subsequently contacted me with some cock and bull story about dodgy electrics in the room they had allocated (double-booked!), and to tell me that they had "transferred" me to St Olaves; apparently, there is a degree of "mutual lack... I attended a presentation evening at this hotel which was a very pleasant experience. The staff were there but not there, if you know what I mean and kept everything flowing very well - the room was well arranged and the buffet was extremely good - the best smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches ever! Car parking a bit limited... More

Situated very close to the centre of the city, the hotel is very convenient, for non-drivers and drivers alike. But management does need to smarten up its act a bit. The rather grubby carpet in my bedroom should have been properly cleaned (what looked like spray marks from opening a can of drink, plus extensive black marks as if someone... More

Stayed here over the weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Convient parking in a central location, welcoming reception, and recently redecorated bedroom. One of them was on the roadside which we'd typically avoid but given we had (well behaved) dogs with us we weren't too bothered. What was a lovely surprise was the hotel restaurant. The chef had worked at... More

Stayed here for one night at the beginning of December and found the hotel to be very well located for all the local Exeter attractions. The hotel bedrooms were well appointed but I would advise staying at the back of the hotel and not at the front near the main road. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the... More

our room was well appointed and comfortable but there was a heavy smell of shake n vac or air freshener. we needed to leave the windows open to reduce it which magnified the noise from outside. we had friends in the hotel who were also kept awake by the noise. give the restaurant a swerve also, very bland. Had a great nights sleep and to top it off had a very tastie breakfast in the morning. All the team at the hotel are absolutely brilliant, they are all soo helpfull and friendly. Could... More

Slightly faded charm, but attentive service, flexible, welcoming, and good value. More

I just can't quite understand the management here. There must be a reason why they do not advertise their "annexe". Adjoining the hotel grounds they have a townhouse in a private square which they let out. It has three bedrooms (it would be four, but the staircase is too steep, the door too low for the health and safety police... More

We were three adults so had booked two rooms, a double and a single and were accommodated on the same floor as we had requested. This was my second stay at St. Olaves and it confirmed my original impression of a friendly, elegant and well priced hotel. the breakfasts were delicious; the rooms beautifully furnished and equipped (although the single...
