Very welcoming bar staff who took us to our room. The room itself (room 2) was very clean, had a comfy double bed, wardrobe, electric heater and a trouser press. It didn't have a tv but that wasn't too much of an issue. The bathroom was also very clean, the shower wasn't very powerful though. As it is meant to... More

Many thanks for your lovely review, we are extremely pleased you enjoyed your stay and would join us again when visiting Chester. The ariels have just been fitted for the new flat screen tv's, therefore they should be all up and running for your next stay. Thanks again. More

Stayed here Saturday night and had a really good time. Perfect location to explore Chester, quirky and quaint building and really felt like you were back in time! Food was first class, service a bit slow at times but worth the wait. Room was extremely clean, cosy and cmfortable. Only disappointment was the lack of poltergeists!

Friendly bar staff and comfy rooms BUT housekeeping ruined our final impression - she harassed us on three separate occasions in the final hour BEFORE checkout and again when we left the room (she was impolite and even threatened to call the manager and charge us additional fees). Despite our negative final impression I would recommend it as a place... More

Stayed one night while celebrating my 40th. The pub itself is lovely with friendly staff and nice meals. The rooms where just as expected. Very olde world which adds to the ghostly atmosphere. Comfy and clean. We even had a few spooky goins on. I would recommend here and would stay again. Made my birthday that lil bit special

Doesnt serve cheap drinks, but has an interesting interior & is reported to be one of the most haunted pubs in England. Would recommend if people like a story behind an old pub. However the drinks are expensive, with a sherry costing £4 and being served in a coke glass! Lol What do they teach bar stsff these days lol... More

Just visited Chester to walk the walls and browse the shops and relax, feeling hungry we went in search of Sunday lunch when we were attracted by the exterior appearance of the pub, what a fantastic interior, atmospheric and authentic. We all had the most delicious roast beef and all the trimmings washed down with a cold pint. Excellent will... More

We visited the Ye Olde King's head today whilst shopping in Chester. The pub caught our eye straight away and we were not disappointed. We had the two for ten pound choices, I had the lasagne and my partner had the beer battered haddock. Both meals were delicious!! Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. I loved the little bit of... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Kings Head is a traditional Inn built in 1622 on the west side of Lower Bridge Street. The Inn is a few minutes walk down hill from the Cross. The name refers to when King Charles stayed at the nearby Gamul House during the English Civil War. Since buying the business in March 2012 the current owners have spent thousands of pounds trying to bring the Ye Olde Kings Head back to it's former glory. In November 2012, the property had an extensive refurbishment throughout the bar and restaurant areas, every ensuite bathroom was also replaced and redecorated to a high standard. There are currently three completed refurbished rooms, by mid June 2013 they expect every bedroom to be finished. ... more   less
