We were visiting to meet some family. The hotel was basically clean and sound. The room we had was quite small with a tiny shower. The TV was ok and the parking secure but the entrance to the parking area was very tight. Breakfast was variable my omelette was very good but my wifes scrambled egg was luke warm and... More

This place is located in Clifton high above Bristol. It's uphill - so don't even think of walking from the station. Take a taxi or a bus - but expect traffic-jams. Bristol could use a decent traffic-planner and a bus-schedule that is understandable. But that has nothing to do with the hotel - I know. I was there for 4... More

I have to stay I found this hotel a disappointment. I thought that the decor had seen better days. In my room, the toilet seat was chipped and there was a large stain on the bathroom floor (it looked as if it was a sizeable burn). The carpet in the bedroom was also stained, and the curtain was hanging off... More

Great place to stay in the wonderful Clifton village, we took our 2 dogs and were give a twin room in the basement, sounds A bit grim but it was A nice size, and right by A fire exit door to the enclosed car park, where we could walk the dogs, free parking on the street, but if its not... More

Nice guest house, wonderful staff, great breakfast, generous tea/coffee allowance, perfect location (for the Uni of Bristol department I was working in), good co-owner restaurant/sports bar (go for the fajitas). But hard bed, shower with two temperatures (too hot and too cold), steep stairs, tired decor, no chest of drawers to put clothes away. Would I stay again? Probably, yes.

Dear "RikRaccoon", Thank you for your review of the Washington. I am very pleased to read such positive comments about our staff and breakfast - I shall pass these onto the team in our meeting today. As you pointed out, the Washington is a very characterful building - Grade 2 listed and quite old! It is for this reason that... More

I'm suprised about the negative reviews for this hotel, we found it to be ideal for our purpose with breakfast as well. I was having laser eye surgery and we needed somewhere that was nearby. The Washington is close to Clifton village and a 15-20 minute walk from the centre of Bristol. Our room was spacious with a large en-suite.... More

We recently stayed at the Washington for 2 nights. Like stepping back into the 1970, but without any of the retro. Just a run down, shabby dump with pealing plywood partitions, stained and grimy of bathroom fittings and tiny noisy rooms. If it had been £30 a night this would have been forgivable. But at the prices they charge, it is severely sub-standard. I'll be amazed if this place... More

The hotel looks worn out, the canopy is covered in green gunk. Reception is smart and the staff are friendly, but that's all the good things about this hotel. Reception polite and helpful when talking via phone and in person. Single En-suite Room on 3rd floor at back of building was clean, tidy and I slept well. Decor and some fittings could do with updating, including fitting of... More
