Unique, the epitomy of an old English pub, totally trusting of it's clients. Robert is a master of hospitality. Take a trip back in time. fantastic food,,, great stay overs in the 3 rooms available as I can attest to and so will my assignations. Just love the place and going for a beer today.

I've been here several times, stayed overnight twice. Beautiful place, great though slightly eccentric landlord, absolutely fantastic food from a great chef with respect for seasons and place, great garden, very relaxed feelig all over the place. Tip-Top !

This pub does not have the best rooms in the world, and I hate shared bathrooms. However, it is quiet, the beds are comfortable, (ask for the green room) the breakfast is amazing and the landlord is slightly mad, in a nice way. The food in the evening is all home grown, and I found it to be a good... More

Recently stayed at the Red Lion for the first time after it being highly recommended to us. This is truly one of the most fantastic fun and welcoming pubs I've been to in my many years trawling the countries pubs and bars. Of course the genial host Robert is key to the whole experience and he could not have been... More

I hadn't thought to write a review until now, some three months after this visit, but was moved to do so by the grudging and cantankerous offerings on this website. The Red Lion is charming. The food is excellent (though the menu a little old-fashioned now). And Robert - the "Innkeeper" - is a national treasure (recently celebrated in a... More

The innkeeper as outrageously but pleasingly eccentric as ever and the beer palatable (one brew gravity dispensed) but he really needs to turn his occasional outbursts of anger on the menu - pretentious, pricey and well below the standard of a few years ago. Lets hope his love of 'sharpeners' leads him to sharpen up this area of the pub's... More

Would have to agree with the people who rate this place highly (and think that some people will NEVER be satisfied) - just been back after 3 years absence and wonder why we left it so long. Robert is charm personified but totally barking. Breakfast is unique, if you're not a big eater, get one between 2 - you'll still... More

My brother Simon and his partner Rebecca had been there for a couple of meals and said how lovely it was and what a fantastic host Robert is...So last night my husband and I dined there with Simon and Rebecca and we booked bed and breakfast, staying in the Green Room. When Simon last went he asked if he could... More
