Have stayed at the avenue several times over the last few months as working locally and it is very good. Tracy and Geoff are fantastic as are all the staff, very friendly and welcoming. The food in the bar is also of a very high standard, would definitely recommend and will be going back in the autumn for a few... More

I've stayed at The Avenue on a number of occasions and will continue to do so, when my work takes me to that neck of the woods. The cost of a room is reasonable. I've always been made to feel very welcome. The rooms are always clean, comfortable and warm. The food's good. I have special dietary requirements and Tracy... More

I often stay at The Avenue Inn, High Shincliffe, Durham when taking my daughter up to and back from University. Just stayed there again on 11th January for one night. Clean premises, adequate accommodation and facilities, very reasonable price and excellent landlord (Geoff and Tracy) and staff. Good food of an evening in the pub as well if you don't... More

Stayed at the Avenue for 4-5 months on and off whilst working in Durham. It's cheap, it's cheerful, the grub is decent and the ale is good!! Great accomodation on a budget! Cheers Geoff and Tracy for a great stay!

Stayed for one night on recent roadtrip around the UK. We had 2 rooms, single and triple share. The whole place is a bit run-down and could use some updates/redecoration (ie carpets, paintin) - but overall it was a great place to stay near Durham. We didn't have dinner in the pub as they don't serve evening meals everyday -... More

I stayed here in March with my parents for three nights. I found the hotel very clean and my single room spacious, the shared bathroom was also spotless. The hotel could do with a bit of decorating, as it looks slightly shabby but dont be put off, its very good value for money, I dont think you could find better.... More

Situated about a ten minute bus ride from Durham, The Avenue Inn is in the pleasant country village of High Shincliffe. During the day there are four buses an hour into Durham, but a sketchy service in the evening. There is a very friendly atmosphere in the pub, from Tracy and Jeff, who will do anything to help, and also... More

There are clean warm rooms over the pub, with TVs and tea/coffee facilities.Some... More

The Avenue Inn in High Shincliffe is a traditional country pub with a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The landlords Jeff and Tracy treat everyone like a friend and make great efforts to offer very good food and accommodation. There is a good selection of lagers and real ales available and they are served at a very high standard. The... More
