Official Description (provided by the hotel):: Pension Idube is a charming early-1900’s home in the leafy suburb of Auckland Park, 4 blocks from Melville’s trendy 7th Avenue with its cosmopolitan restaurants, bars, coffee shops, antique stores and craft shops. The Pension was one of the first backpackers hostels in Johannesburg and has been around for many years - we've now morphed to a fabulous budget B&B. Our fantastic guest reviews attest to our fantastic service at the some of the most affordable rates in Johannesburg. Our massive renovation and redecoration is almost complete, and we are well on our way to being hip-hop-and-happening, ready to welcome new and returning guests. All of our sun-filled rooms are being revamped, offering both the business and leisure traveller comfortable and clean accommodation. Our breakfasts are legendary, and are served around the pool during the summer months. We are in the ideal position for academic visitors to the University of Johannesburg and Wits (University of the Witwatersrand). We are a 5 minute drive from the SABC, Johannesburg CBD, Braamfontein, Rosebank and Soweto. Our guests have said that the Pension is a great base from which to explore the vibey Johannesburg and its surrounds! This is probably the best B&B in the Melville area. It's clean, spacious and you get most value for little money. An excellent location close to the bars and restaurants in Melville. It's also a 20-minute walk to 44 Stanley, which I highly recommend. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. Recommended if you want an oasis of calm and relaxation while visiting Joburg

We had a great time there. Its located 3-4 blocks from the restaurant/pub street and we felt safe walking there during day and night . We stayed here on two separate occasions while traveling around South Africa. The property is well secured and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated.
