Based on some reviews I booked Chateau Lacombe with low expectations. But I was pleasantly surprised. With a few tweaks, this hotel could be deserving of 4 star. For a hotel rated at 3 1/2 stars, the lobby is impressive...clean and expansive. Parking was expensive... $25 but easy and elevator available. Downtown location is great. Thought the concierge was worth the price....$135 for regular room/$149 for concierge plus 2 drinks/appies and contintental breakfast. However the hostess in the concierge lounge seemed to retreat to the staff room but once you found her the free drinks available....wife's glass of wine was filled to the top, Big Rock Traditional was my beer. Appies were well picked over. But lounge had great view of river valley. Send staff over to Metterra or Varscona on how to use this hospitality hour to add class to hotel. Same for continental breakfast. The breakfast was a bust...toast or waffle were only offering of substance. No eggs, cereal, porridge etc. Plenty of yogurt and coffee/tea but you left hungry. Room was a step above ok. River View if available would put it over the top. TV badly needs a how-to/tip sheet. Had to go down to front desk, they sent up a maintenance staff who quickly navigated the prompts which had left me frustrated and feeling inadequate. Supper at Belamy Lounge was excellent, best salad I have had in a long time. Wife was quite happy with steak sandwich. Excellent craft beer on offer. All in all, I will be back.

The hotel is dated and doesn’t feel clean. I accidentally left behind belongings and no one bothered to contact me. When I phoned they tried to cover it up by saying they found them today only to backtrack and say they were found on my checkout date. No manager was available to speak with. I live 3 hours away and they suggested I have a friend pick them up. I do not have any friends or family that live in Edmonton. While speaking with housekeeping another lady (I’m assuming with house keeping) interrupted the conversation spoke over top of both of us, to inform me it’s not their job to do anything with left behind items and it’s my job to contact them and figure it out. Poor customer service. Do not stay here

Dear stephp702, thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Trip Advisor. I am pleased to report that we have already taken action to make improvements. In regard to your personal items, I understand that a package was couriered over to you and was due to arrive last Friday. Unfortunately, due to our in-house privacy policy, we do not contact clients when they leave personal items behind. Notably, two of our long-tenured and trusted associates assigned to your room did not find the missing funds you reported. Nonetheless, I am happy to discuss this matter further at your convenience. As for the regrettable comments made over the phone by one of our associates, simply, I was horrified! You have our assurance that this matter will be fully investigated, and corrective actions taken to ensure it is never repeated. As an independent, locally owned, and one of Edmonton's iconic landmarks, what you described is certainly not indicative of the service standard we aspire to provide at our hotel. The Chateau Lacombe Hotel is renowned in Edmonton for its hospitality, staff friendliness and attentiveness. Delivering exceptional service is a top priority for us, and we're truly sorry that we did not meet your expectation. Please accept our sincerest apologies. I hope you will give us another opportunity to regain your confidence. If I can be of any assistance, please contact me directly. Richard A. The heating wasn't working and they didn't seem in a rush to fix it. They only clean the rooms every three days, and the facilities are generally pretty tired. Feels like a hotel going under and trying to save money before it does.

Nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff! Clean rooms with comfy beds. About a ten minute walk to Rogers Place with lots of choices of places to eat and drink in between. Continental breakfast was well arranged. There is parking at the hotel. I would like to return to this hotel again, my family really enjoyed our stay.

I had a terrible stay at this hotel as my car was broken into twice during my stay. Both times I received a theft alert to my phone. Security staff was unaware of break in until I advised them. Because of the early alert on the first break in, police arrived in time to arrest the thief as he was breaking into other cars. Police mentioned that bottom door to parkade was wide open. Next day I was informed that the door was fixed so should be safe but second morning I received alert again as someone punched through the plastic cover on my broken window. Again security was unaware until I advised them of the alert on my phone. I know that there is signage up saying that the hotel is not responsible for damage or theft but there are also signs up about 24 hour surveillance and cameras. To make matter even more frustrating I was told by staff that 6 cars had been broken into only a month before. There is a $25 charge per day for parking ( I was refunded this amount) but I would not take a chance again and don't believe I could stay at this hotel again. The damage to my car was over $10000 as estimated by the insurance company as the thief was not to concerned with what he broke or tore while breaking in. I am sad to make this review as the staff was very good .

Arrived in the taxi got out and the first smell that hits you is Pot with the people smoking it and loitering outside of the hotel - you walk in the hotel is fark and dingy - everything is closed - the restaurant - the bar - this was at 6pm on a Sunday - there was also another area that was boarded up by the door. I went to check in - the sign on reception says housekeeping is only every 3 days - but they dont mention this - the restaurant was closed and would be for the stay - the bar was closed and would be for the stay - the posh revolving restaurant with the $55 plate was open but closed on Monday and Tuesday so there is nowhere else to eat in the hotel for dinner. The wifi is poor - they told me it is ok on the 19th floor but on the 19th and below it is sketchy - my friend was below 18 and said it was unworkable. The lifts smell of pot as well - up to the room and the window is leaking (yes I have a picture) it smells of mold in the room - its 53 degrees the room is freezing cold. No little shop to get a soda or water - nothing - my friend was accosted outside of the hotel by someone wanting them to buy food for them - whilst they were griding their pot. I went to the concierge louge to rebook to another hotel - the wifi worked there - but it was a cold and dark place - no one in there except the host who offered a glass of wine but as I was not staying I declined. The area is certainly sketchy. For a woman travelling alone this is not the place to stay - there are plenty of other options and I checked out and went to one of those and did not stay a night - this hotel needs a total refit

Romance package is perfect for date night and couples getaway! Beautiful views of the skyline and river valley. Access to the concierge floor with drinks, appetizers, and continental breakfast. Campagne and chocolate strawberries arrive to your room to kick off your romantic evening! Beautiful hotel on the inside with great history, but the hotel could use some beautifying improvements on the outside!

This hotel is insufferably underkept. Upon checkin our room was 25 degrees. We arrived as a group for a band festival and every single room out of the 75 rooms we had was over heated. Three rooms of our group of 120 were able to secure fans from the front desk for some comfort, this is simply not acceptable. We were so hot we had to sleep with no bedding and cold towels. When we called the front desk they told us to turn down the heat all the way and turn off the thermostat. This provided no relief and is also simply not acceptable for a hotel as a response. We had a king suite and our room was dated and extremely musty. That said, it was cleaned well upon our arrival and the bed although old was comfortable. We did not receive housekeeping during our stay. Standard rooms with two beds are double beds, not queens as a heads up. We felt for the housekeeping staff and the restaurant staff as they appeared to be overworked and under staffed. This is still not an excuse for the heat and lack of fans as a remedy. We won’t return here ever again.

Response from Kent Murray, General Manager at Chateau Lacombe Hotel

Dear SBT66. Thank you for choosing our hotel for your school band accommodations, and for taking the time to post your comments. I apologize on behalf of our team for the lack of air conditioning, which absolutely was an issue that we struggled with. Our regular mechanical supplier was unavailable so we had to turn to another, to whom we sent out our chiller pump/motor a week prior for a bearing repack. Unfortunately, it required more major repairs taking much longer than expected. We purchased 30 new fans to add to our existing inventory, so I'm sorry to hear that your group only received 3 fans. For that, I invite you to contact me directly so we can have a conversation about making it right for your school. I'm happy to hear that your bed was comfortable and the suite was cleaned well. As you may have seen online and in signage at front desk, daily housekeeping is not provided automatically but the frequency and extra supplies or amenities can be contracted or requested, and we will be happy to accommodate. Coming out of the pandemic and like many, the hotel being closed for an extended period of time, we have not been able to return to full staffing levels. We are very fortunate to have a number of long-time staff, who work hard but take it in stride. On a side note, I'm happy to report that the pump motor for our chiller has been repaired and was returned on Friday. Again I thank you for your business, personally apologize for the heat issues, and look forward to hearing back from you.

The place is dirty and run down. My room is too hot to sit in. The answer is they brought me a fan. Can't control the temperature in the room. I called a month or two ago and was told the gym was having work done. There is a 30 year old universal, some cardio equipment and a few odd dumbells. If you want to do anything besides cardio forget it. You can't get breakfast in the hotel unless you upgrade to concierge. I used to stay here 20 years ago and it was great. Not any more. Such a shame.

Dear slawdoc. Thank you for returning to our iconic hotel, and for taking the time to post your review. I'm happy to see that you still loved our great location and the service of our friendly staff, but am sorry to hear that you were not happy with the value that we provided. I would like to hear more details about cleanliness and condition issues, so they can be addressed quickly. I do apologize on behalf of our team for the lack of air conditioning, as the motor for our chillers was sent out for bearings to be repacked and it ended up needed more repairs than that. With reference to our fitness room, we have had several machines repaired with only two more to go. I'm curious to know what type of machines you would like to see in future, as we have a good array of dumbbells, treadmills, recumbent bikes, and elliptical cross trainers. Your feedback on that would be appreciated. Although La Ronde is open for brunch every Sunday, Café Lacombe will be opening for breakfast starting April 16. Until then guests on other floors can pre-order continental breakfast from the Concierge Lounge. I hope that this information is as valuable as your feedback, for which we thank you as well as for your return business. Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you again soon.
