We picked the hotel for its location near the channel ports but not actually in either Calais or Bolougne. The hotel owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast was one of the better ones we have had in France (fresh fruit salad, selection of breads and pastries and cooked eggs... More

A lovely restaurant with rooms outside boulogne. The food is fantastic (home made pastries from the kitchen for breakfast) and really amazing service but it is a bit pricey. House champagne was 85 euros which was the same price as Dom perignon and 6 coffees cost 65 euros! The rooms are small as is the bathroom but all nicely done... More

We stayed at the hotel for one night on our way for Normandy. If the hotel would not have been located near the rather uninspiring town of Boulogne sur Mer and/or in St Etienne au Mont one night would have definitely been too short. Let it be clear, apartnfrom its location this little hotel is all you need. We were... More

Having read the other reviews I was looking forward to the gastromonic experience at this hotel. The welcome was warm and friendly and we were shown to our room by the smiling Guilliame who seemed to multi-task. Our room had been refurbished and was compact, overlooking the road, with a neat en suite shower room. However, the main reason for... More

We have been regular visitors for a few years and now plan ferry timings to include a visit. The food is exceptional and, as other reviewers have mentioned, Dominique and Sybille are charming and efficient. It is the best sort of French family run restaurant. The rooms are now of good modern quality and we await the refurbishment of the... More

We made the booking for the Hotel through Booking.com after reading reviews of the Restaurant. We recieved a very warm welcome, and were very surprised to find our room to be not only comfortable but very well appointed for only having a 3 Star rating. We would certainly give this Hotel 4 Stars. Dominique and his staff in the Resturant... More

We started going to this hotel some 10 or 12 years ago, just after Dominique took over from his father, normally 2 to 4 times a year. Dominique, his wife Sibylle and his staff have been wonderful throughout our visits, with absolutely superb food at every meal. The hotel rooms were refurbished around 2 years ago now, while previously being... More

It's a shame about the location, close to a railway, but this is a comfortable hotel, very convenient to boulogne (just 2 junctions off A16) run by a charming couple. The main reason to come here, though, is the restaurant. The small bar area, ambience & very comfortable seating add to the feeling of wellbeing, but the food is wonderful... More

I have been going to the Hostellerie since 1983 - the food and sevice has always been of the highest standard - in more than 25 years the quality has been maintained and have never been disappointed - Dominique is an amazing chef and Sibylle is a very attentive host .The bedrooms have been completely refurbished and of ' boutique... We have been coming to the Hostelleirie de la Riviere year for more than a decade, and we still love it. True, it isn't cheap (E200 for a meal for two adults and 2 children) but the food is fantastic , the staff a complete delight and the service spot on. I love the peaceful atmosphere of the dining room... More
