We recently stayed 3 nights at the Lodge, one at the beginning and two at the end of a backpacking trip in New Mexico. The Lodge is located in the tiny community of Kingston at the eastern edge of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness. It's an old building, very rustic and Western feeling. The rooms are comfortable though not opulent. The... More

We had only two nights at the Black Range Lodge, but we felt like we were leaving home when we left. Catherine Wanek and her crew are wonderful, fascinating hosts. The interior of this old lodge was a delight. We had a king-sized bed on the second floor with a balcony. Slept the best I slept on our whole 10-day... More

Thank you for your kind words about the Lodge. It was a treat, listening to the harmonious interplay of you three accomplished songwriters sharing your music, and humming along with the tunes I knew. It's this kind of serendipity that makes the inn-keeping profession so personally rewarding. More

I went to Kingston in February. The main reason for my trip was to get work done. I stayed in one of the suites with a balcony. The breakfast every morning was delicious, and the workers are always very friendly and helpful. I loved the fact that it is a quiet and peaceful place and I actually got work done.... More

My husband. a friend, and I recently broke a 10-hr trip from Santa Fe to Presidio, TX with a night at the Black Range Lodge, per a friend's recommendation. It was a totally delightful experience, though (or perhaps because!) we were the only guests on a weekday night. Upon learning that the "only cafe in the region" was closed on... More

The Black Range Lodge is a trip into the Past; a laid-back woodsy atmosphere with the modern conveniences you need, but none that you don't. (Leave your cellphone at home). Hot tubs, massage, pool table and a large library are available, and you are right at the edge of the vast Gila Wilderness for limitless hiking, horseback riding and fishing.... More

if you like history and wanting to get away from it all this is the place for you. This former gold mining town in the mountains past Hillsboro, New Mexico, once had a population of 7,000 people in its glory days. The bank building is still standing as a are few other buildings. Plenty of places to to walk and... More

Nestled in the Black Range mountains of the Gila National Forest, this cool, quirky lodge is a real find, but you might need your GPS to find it. Although this lodge is a bed and breakfast, it accommodated our large bike group and prepared an evening dinner for us as well. If you're staying there on your own, the kitchen... More

From the greeting at the front door, until the time of our goodbye the following day, everything was perfect. A wonderful, warm and inviting lodge, good food, new friends, and a lovely balcony (choose lodge room #2) complete with snuggly purring cat...(oh, and AMAZING rocks!!!) We will be back, soon I hope! Just got back from the annual retreat with my trade association. The Black Range Lodge is just the place to step out of the busy lives we tend to lead. Catherine and her crew do an amazing job in all areas. They continue to improve the Lodge and the grounds and all the amenities without losing the historical feel. A... More

The Black Range Lodge was recommended to me by a bicycling club from Las Cruces who insisted I stay there. I am so happy I did! It's a little peace of heaven nestled in the Gila National Forest at the old silver boom town of Kinston. Katherine the owner squeezed me in when her refurbished historic lodge was booked, welcomed... More
