What a wee gem of a genuine Kiwi camp. Right on the waterfront, magnificent birdsong to awaken us. It is cold in May but the showers/toilets are heated which took the edge off, and there is a small wall heater in the cabin which does the same. An excellent old open fire at one end of the kitchen was continually... More

Stop number two on our road trip. We had booked 10 weeks in advance as thought it would be busy with easter and it was. Our booking had been stuffed up but thankfully we had the presence of mind to call and ask if we could come a day early after a shocker of a stay elsewhere. What a lovely... More

We booked the refurbished 100 year old "old school house" which is actually the size of a smaller standard cabin (small bedroom with double bed and two bunks joined with a small kitchen and eating area and verandah). Don't be fooled by the size. It's OK for a couple of adults and two kids, but not more. There are numerous... More

Good little camping ground near the estuary, nice bush walk. Facilities clean & adequate, We stayed in the cabins which were pretty small & cramped, but did the job. Small shop selling the bare basics in the office.

We booked via the phone and explained that we had two adults 3 children plus a baby and no camping gear. We were told that the old school house would suit us best as it sleeps 6 and has seating and dining table. We arrived to find a two room cabin with dble bed one set of bunks jammed in... More

We visited the Pounawea Motor Camp for a picnic lunch during a Vintage Car Club run. The facilities were clean and modern and the views of the estuary from the site were great. The grounds seemed well-kept and the kitchen and toilets were clean and very well-ordered. We would have no hesitation in staying over-night if we were travelling in... More

Everything was truly average here including the surroundings and up to surat bay. I had expected more from catlins area having travelled from te anau all the way for that special bit in the south. Was greeted well at first but didn't know why the owner didn't seem very keen to attend to my queries thereafter. More like eager to... More

Visited here in Sept so avoided the overcrowding that others have commented on and to be honest most campgrounds have at that time of the year. Facilities here have been modernised and were nice, bright & clean - we were very impressed with them. Stayed in a cabin & had been forewarned when booked that was small for 5 as... More

We stayed here Dec/Jan and it felt like cattleyards, less than a meter between us and our neighbours..you can imagine the pressure on facilities. such a lovely place such a shame to be squashed in. No local info available and abrupt answers to questions.
