Not good . As it is only a few hours from LA and San Diego it is full of “glampers” drinking and running generators thinking they are in the great outdoors . After several nights in the Mojave completely remote for FREE coming into this mess and paying $25 for no electricity and no showers is appalling. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I'm comparing this to other Park Service campgrounds throughout the US for $25. By the way-some other campgrounds in the park are great. Cons: poor signing to find your site, terrible roads within the cg, many buildings needing basic maintenance, no hand dryers in restrooms, KOA spacing of sites (but typical for a lot of NPS campgrounds), definitely not recommended for class A rvs. Pros: good hiking trails, good cell service

Black Rock Canyon Campground, located 5 miles north of Twenty Nine Palms Hwy is a scenic location with campsites for tents, campers, trailers and RV's near Joshua Tree National Park with plenty of hiking, biking, walking, day packing and back packing opportunities! This is a great, safe and comfortable camping location that features fire pits, benches and tables,a info center and plenty of open spaces for everyone who visits! Great for seasoned and first time campers as well! If you need or forgot something the city of Yucca Valley is only 5 miles away! In the evening the skies are filled with millions of beautiful stars! Perfect for an overniter,a few days or as a launch point camp for a california deserts camping adventure! We enjoyed our experience here very much! . . . . #blackrockcanyon #joshuatree #joshuatreenationalpark #californiadreamin #californiadreaming #camping #hiking #panoramatrail #yuccavalley #29palmshwy #29palms #jthavn #ilovejoshuatree #gocamping #waynesalvatti #seetheusa #photografxworldwide #nitesky #starsinthesky…

Some of the campsites have large Joshua trees and give you some separation from others, while other campsites are open and right next to your neighbors. This campground may be a part of the national park but you definitely feel removed from it. To get anywhere you have to drove through a large residential area which is a block from the campground. While it is a beautiful spot, it’s not my favorite.

Black Rock Campground offers beautiful views of the desert and unique Joshua Trees. Campsites had picnic tables and fire pits. Restrooms were clean. There are water spigots scattered throughout, and a dump station for RVs. The roads could use an upgrade. No electric or water hookups, so be prepared to boon dock.

If you have an opportunity to do the Panorama Loop hike it’s is so worth it. The views are absolutely breathtaking. Go up early, take your time, pack a lunch to enjoy when you reach the top. Look around at all beauty and you may get to see some wildlife.

Worst campground not inside Joshua tree national park. Obviously a party destination and several campsites are still going loud and strong, fires blazin and even music playin. No ranger in site. No ranger ever came around. When I reminded my neighbors that quiet time was 10 pm and that I had an infant they kept waking up, they just laughed ofcourse. Disrespectful people only know having it their way and being disrespectful. Never coming back!

Beautiful location, simple but efficient amenities, very clean bathrooms. Given 3 instead of 5 as unfortunately we were forced to leave the day before we were due to check out, the first night was very uncomfortable due to a large group playing very loud music and shouting late into the night, today another group of young people set up lots of tents close together and were of similar nature, we were disappointed that rangers had not picked up on behaviour that is spoiling it for everyone else trying to relax and enjoy Joshua Tree.

I visited the park on Memorial Day weekend. Knowing it might get very hot I started out about a hour after sunrise. The trailhead is easy to find and strikes out across a flat area towards the surrounding hills. The trail is well marked and maintained. I enjoyed the amazing geology and abundant plant life as the trail slowly assented into the hills. As you proceed I recommend the left turn at the loop junction. This allows you to ascend the rather steep terrain be sure to take in the view of the desert floor from where you just came. Once you crest the last rise the walking is easy and as the trail tends to follow the ridge line. The scenery is beyond amazing. The return journey is not at all strenuous and very delightful. Bring appropriate clothes and plenty of water as there is little or no shade and poor cell coverage. I would recommend 3 to 4 hours for most people. To my surprise there were no fees at all.…

Since you have to choose a campsite when making reservations online, I chose to arrive at this campground in the middle of the week without reservations and find a campsite suitable for my needs. The camp's visitor center was closed for the summer and the only way to pay/reserve a site was to go online at recreation.gov or call 877-444-6777, which I did. Unlike other national campgrounds, you cannot pay at the campground and you will not get a ticket stub to put on your campsite post. If you reserve a site ahead of time, there is a daily "reserved campsites" list posted at the visitor center. Despite the hassle of paying/reserving a campsite, this campground met my needs. The roads going through the campground are rough, bumpy and not always well paved. There is a wonderful abundance of Joshua Trees in this 4,000 elevation campground. Each site has a fire pit and a concrete picnic table. There is no designated parking spot (not paved) at each campsite which allows you to park wherever you want. Except, of course, the larger pull through RV sites. The bathrooms are large, clean and do have flush toilets. There are electrical outlets on the exterior of the building. The campground also has WIFI. This campground is located outside of the national park and close to the town of Yucca Valley and Joshua. Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, McDonald's and a variety of other stores and restaurants are available. The elevation makes for a cooler sleeping condition. Be aware of snakes, scorpions and possible coyotes along with jack rabbits and squirrels. I only saw one non-poisonous snake, the Rosie Boa, by the restroom. Site is $20 unless you have the Senior Pass which brings it down to $10. Enjoy!…
