Paddy and Maureen could not have been better hosts, plying us with with whiskey and a warm port concoction ensuring a good nights sleep in our fabulous bedroom wing of the manor. To top this off however was the the best breakfast in our three months touring. Home made porridge with homemade strawberry ,rhubarb and mit compote with a sauce of Irish whiskey sauce followed with the most delicious homemade scones of course. Unfortunately we could only stay one night but we're still made to feel like family. Best wishes and regards Martin & Berys Melbourne Australia

If you're tired of the sterile, corporate, almost fabricated look of accommodations and you want to experience the 'real Ireland' then you must stay at Sherwood Park House. The owners are fantastic and sincere, the landscape is beautiful, the breakfast was excellent and the home gorgeous, out of the 17th century. My wife and I loved it and wanted to tell anyone thinking of visiting Ireland not to miss this hidden gem. Do yourself a big favor, try the "5 stars" so you can tell your friends you did, then go to Sherwood Park House to find what you really wanted to see in this wonderful county.

Sherwood Park House is the antithesis of those brassy, shiny, pretentious chain hotels, with staff trained to mouth corporate-speak rather than deal with you as human being. Nothing ersatz about this beautiful elegant perfectly-proportioned house and the hosts Maureen and Paddy are the real deal, the genuine article. We stayed in April and I am ashamed of myself for taking so long to write a review! This was one of the most pleasurable stays I experienced anywhere in the world because of the welcome and care we received from Maureen and Paddy ( two very interesting people). The rooms were spotless, the linen crisp, the fires roaring and the food delicious. And all provided with such good grace and humour and kindness and thoughtfulness. The scones.....the breakfasts...(including delicious vegetarian options).. I really hope to be back.

We recently spent one night in Sherwood park House. We were greeted by the lovely Maureen and Paddy the owners of the property. Both are a mind of information and realy go out of their way to facilitate guests. In fact Paddy drove us to a local restaurant for dinner. Breakfast the next morning was great. All freshly cooked to order, and was accompanied by Maureen's freshly baked scones.Looking forward to our next visit to the area,

Stayed at Sherwood as we were attending a wedding in a nearby hotel. Paddy&maureen are both so friendly&welcoming. The house has so much character. Room was huge&really clean&comfortable. Breakfast was lovely with a great selection. Paddy even drove us to the hotel for the wedding reception. They really know how to look after their guests. Thank you for a lovely stay.😊

We were at a wedding in the town, and stayed for one night. Sherwood is a lovely old world style house. The rooms clean and large, the bed was extremely comfortable. The surrounding views are amazing. The breakfast was delicious with a large home cooked selection. The Maureen and Paddy's were warm and friendly, they could not have been nicer or more helpful. Paddy agave us a lift back to the wedding hotel and Maureen's scones were amazing! Great experience.

Sherwood Park House is much more than a top notch place to stay. It will long remain in our memory as one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland. The heart and soul of the place are Maureen and Paddy, who welcomed us like long-lost family members. Their warm and generous hospitality made our stay truly special. The grand house, built in 1730, is kept in perfect condition. The rooms are large, comfortable, beautifully furnished, and immaculately clean (with white carpets). The fantastic breakfast is served in a beautiful dining room around a large common table. In the evening we enjoyed reading and chatting with our hosts in the classic drawing room with fire crackling in the fireplace. The view from the windows is picture perfect - green pastures with grazing sheep. Altamont Gardens are 600 meters down the road, with a nice formal garden and a (highly recommended) nature trail to the Slaney river. Kilkenny is an easy day trip, about 30 min drive each way. We stayed two nights with our kids (15, 12), taking two rooms on the top floor. We booked ahead based on a "Top Choice" recommendation by Lonely Planet. Our only regret was not staying longer. Highly recommended.

We were stopping in the house on the night before a friends wedding, which was held in a nearby manor house. Maureen and Paddy were friendly and welcomed us to our room, which was lovely and spacious. The breakfast was lovely the next morning. As we checked out, Maureen asked if we minded if she could check the room in case we had forgotton anything. We loaded the car up and then she came down to ask us about the towels, in which we replied 'what towel's'. She stood looking at us and kept saying 'mmmmm' and I said that we never had any towels in our room and I'd used my own. She said 'mmmmmm' and made us feel quite uncomfortable. My husband said, we've not pinched them if that's what you think and you can check the car! To which, instead of ensuring us that's not what she meant and apologise for not putting towels in our room, which she obviously thought she did, she still said nothing but 'mmmmm' and stared at us and shook her head. I've never felt so insulted and in the wrong for something we didn't do. I don't think I will be recommending this place or staying there again.

We stayed for a weekend the beginning of April The warmth of the welcome from Paddy and Maureen is second to none. On arrival we were given homemade scones and coffee in front of a big log fire and relaxed after our journey. This house is is big, with large spacious rooms with a charm of its own. We were booked in for dinner in the near by village of Clonegal and Paddy very kindly drove us there. Breakfast was a real treat with homemade jams, fresh cooked food and local eggs, served at a large dining table with white linen in front of a roaring fire, what more would you want. On our second evening we ate in and Mareen cooked a fabulous dinner and even went to the trouble of cooking my husband his favourite rhubarb pie. This is really a relaxing place to stay and recharge the batteries, only an hour from Dublin and beside the lovely Altamont Gardens. We look forward to our next visit.

What a house and what a welcome. Maureen and Paddy make you instantly at home in their magnificent old property, and we were treated to tea and coffee and a couple of home made scones. While some of the bathroom fittings could do with updating, everything worked OK and was spotless. A real fire was lit for us on our return from dinner and we enjoyed a chat with Maureen while we supped some 12-year old Jameson we had bought up from Midleton. Breakfast was absolutely top notch, with home made jams and purees and fresh grapefruit. My cooked breakfast was enormous with a mountain of free range scramble eggs, and the best Clonakilty black and white pudding. We couldn't manage the home made scones and breads! I didn't need to eat again all day! We would return without hesitation.
