I visited the Fossil Tree with a friend whilst doing the C2C. In summary the guesthouse is in a great location, is well furnished with comfy beds & offers a good hearty breakfast. From booking to departure the owner ensured everything was spot on. Including a safe storage unit for our beloved bikes:-)! See you next year if our legs... More

This was our 3rd visit in three years and yet again our stay was fantastic, we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Stanhope area, infact we now plan our overnight stay to coinside when there are vacancies at The Fossil Tree its so good. The rooms are very well equipped and spotlessly clean, the breakfast superb. Hazel & Phil are perfect... More

Stayed here whilst providing support for some friends completing the Coast 2 Coast cycle challenge. Would wholeheartedly recommend this as a stopping off point for anyone completing the C2C ride. They even provide bike storage. Good breakfast and good clean accommodation. Thank you Hazel.

If you are planning to do Coast to Coast then I could think of no where better of breaking up your journey! Hazel was really accomodating and went the extra mile! Stanhope is 100 miles from the start so you will have broken the back of the journey and can enjoy a well deserved pint in the local Market place!... More

Stopped on our tour of the north in summer from york to newcastle stopping off here before going on to the lake district. Maybe we had been spoilt by our other stop offs on the way but this didn't wow us at all. we wanted somewhere sort of half way between newcastle and the south lakes and stanhope looked like... More

Stayed one night whilst on business, room was very clean, comfortable and well appointed, in the morning the cooked breakfast was lovely, if you did not want cooked breakfast there was plenty of other options. The landlady was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the local area and from my business meeting it would seem she is well know and... More

I was working down at Hammsterley and booked the bed and breakfast for two nights. The hostess was very friendly and helpful. Arranged for breakfast for the time when I needed it and for my really early morning start she left out some breakfast for me which was lovely. Place was spotless clean and I really enjoyed the hospitality. The... More

This is an odd 'un. Lovely room, everything spotlessly clean, cracking brekkie and good value really, great stop off point for when riding C2C, couple of pubs really nearby, so far so good, but the owner is totally fruitloop mental, a bit like a female Basil Fawlty. If this place was made into a reality show it would be a... More

I enjoyed a two-night stay at the Fossil Tree while competing in a canicross event at nearby Hamsterley Forest. Very comfortable bed, warm and quiet room, hot shower, wifi, somewhere to put my bike out of the rain and parking just outside - fulfilled all my needs.
