We stayed here for 2 nights and had a great weekend. We were welcomed by the owner and offered a drink on the house. He explained all about the ales and speciality vodkas. The bar is full of Russian artefacts and the has beautiful views of the sea and the yachts in the bay. Our room was small and basic... More

This hotel seems to polarise reviewers! We really enjoyed our stay. It's true that the bedrooms are fairly basic, but ours was perfectly adequate and very reasonably priced. People have moaned about having a separate entrance for the bedrooms, but it's quite clear from the website that this is how it's set up, and I can't see why it would... More

Around Port Bannatyne yacht marina are ancient stone cottages, a golf course, and this little inn run by a Russian family. The views across the sea from the restaurant are fabulous. The guestrooms are small, simple and cosy. Not a place for those seeking a luxury hotel but it's the cheapest place on the Isle of Bute and great for... More

I've stayed twice. The family room is OK but the double I had the second time was frankly depressing. On the other hand, the russian breakfasts are far and away the best I've ever had in any hotel or B&B.

My husband and I just back from a short break at this hotel. Our room was round the corner from hotel which you dont expect, in fact a separate building with its own door It was reminiscent of a dungeon and tiny. The double bed was tiny with awful mattress. The room was not terribly clean either. The one evening... More

I am not accustomed to commenting on hotels, restaurants, etc that I have visited however I am compelled to do so on this occasion following my recent stay at the Port Royal Hotel (or Russian Tavern) from 28th September to 2nd of October 2011. Quite simply I enjoyed every aspect of my short stay at the hotel although the highlights... More

After a year finally back in The Port Royal, love this place! Great food and a large variety of drinks. Always a warm welcome from the owners, each year we visit the Isle of Bute and a stay in this hotel is one of our highlights. We also had the pleasure of meeting some local people ....and the next day..... More

didn't get to sleep due to noise from large groups of drunks outside, went to restaurant /bar to see about dinner, even though resident, told that children were not allowed in the bar/restaurant, had to go elsewhere for dinner. (Bit much considering the room we stayed in was advertised as a family room with double bed and bunk beds.. Although... More
