We just stayed there for one night. We had bookings for 5 rooms and they could only provide us with 4 which was inconvenient as we were all travelling on business and no one prefers to have to share a room with a colleague after a long days work. In any case, they got us another room before we even... More

Booked two rooms in the guest-house for the family. Arrival all our detail were at hand, with no problem checking in. Outstanding Dutch style building and well kept garden. Son enjoyed the grass. The swimming pool was clean and well maintained. Looked like the best choice in the town. We were not disappointed as rooms in the main house were... More

Like many before us, I suspect, we identified Piet Retief as a good halfway point between the KwaZulu Natal coast and Johannesburg, splitting an eight or nine hour drive over two days. Welgekozen looked like an interesting place to stay. Attractive building and grounds. Looked like the best option in the town. We were not disappointed. The hotel is a... More

I booked a 2 night stay for a weekend in February as my husband and I were going to run a marathon there and we had previously stayed there. Unfortunately the marathon date was changed and I cancelled the booking as we had other commitments that weekend. I cancelled the booking 6 weeks before the actual date which was well... More

Hi, Stayed one night only, whilst travelling from Durban to Kruger. Check in and correspondence, handled well. Owners very helpful. Very nice Guesthouse. Dinner and Breakfast excellent. Our room was large, beautifully furnished and immaculate. We were told by the owners , that the Prime MInister of South Africa had stayed in the same room. This indicated the high quality we... More

We stayed here for one night and really enjoyed our stay. The staff and owners were very friendly and accommodating. The service was excellent! The rooms were modern, nicely furnished, and had kitchenettes. We had the dinner and breakfast and both were delicious. We really enjoyed relaxing in the pub in the evening and mingling with the owners and locals.... More

This is a delightful find in the Piet Retief area. Bob and Betty, the owners deliver a level of service that is hard to find in the current environment of chain hotels. Bob and Betty care about their hotel and their guests and it shows. The property is beautiful, set on a large property with a circa 1952 Cape Dutch... More

Welgekozen Lodge makes me grateful to have business operations in the Piet Retief area -- the standard of service, amenities and the cuisine are very high by any standards. A great place to keep returning to.
