Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Everything about this place was terrible. The wifi only worked for a few minutes in the balcony. Their network would not accept my visa card (which worked everywhere else in Mexico). Dirty carpets and walls. No towels in the room (we had to request them and they were in no rush to help us. Very expensive; terrible value for the price. This place is a dump.

This hotel is past its prime. Gorgeous architecture in a prime location next to the famous waterfall. The bell boy was extremely helpful (tall, skinny young man… forgot his name). Foods are decent. We were here for the first motorcycle rally of Monterrey. Lots of wealthy clients on expensive BMW bikes. When we checked into our room, no towels, soaps, shampoo, water… nothing. Had to get the necessities. Ok, not a good start. AC does not work. Spoiled Americans can not sleep in 80 degrees weather. Brought it to the attention of the front desk. They guarantee that they will fix it. Came back from dinner, still hot and stuffy. Opened with doors open. Next day, complain to front desk. Request for Manager. He is not there. Kindly request to move us. “Sorry, no vacancy. We will try to fix the AC.” Came back from rally. Cool room but get hot again in the middle of the night. And… no new towels and no soaps. Will never come back and will recommend rally organizer to choose somewhere else next year.

I used to stay here with my family as a child. This last September I returned to revisit the hotel I once loved only to be left with the most extreme sadness and heartbreak I’ve ever felt... Near the pools in the back, to the right of the hotel check-in desk/building, there was the most grotesque excuse to cage a beautiful green and blue macaw. He was all alone, with nothing to look at but cement, no food or water visible, no perches to sit on or stand on, no foliage, no enrichment... truth be told, this day changed me forever. I had never seen such neglect to such a beautiful animal... a bird that could FLY at that, locked up left to walk on cement forever, not even look out at the sky.. An absolute disgrace... we spoke to the manager and were told that he belonged to someone and that they didn’t even have a key to unlock his gate... can you imagine a life like this? Day in day out? The manager wasn’t the least bit empathetic towards the bird, let alone us as visitors and guests of the hotel. I certainly couldn’t enjoy my stay regardless of how gorgeous this resort was. And I couldn’t understand how anyone else could either. It’s been a long time since then and I still think of how dreadful of a life this resort lets their gorgeous creatures live... the peacocks were also in terrible conditions, a mother locked up with all her babies with no room to wander. All pictured below.

I have never felt so uncomfortable and depressed at a hotel. Even the receptionist looked sad as we were checking in. Rooms need serious upkeep. Bathroom reeked of urine and the room had an old, musty smell. Lamps had no lightbulbs. AC/Heater wasn't working and we were freezing INSIDE the room. At the restaurant, we were served reheated meals that tasted horrible. Sad,cold and hungry we left the hotel. Never coming back again.

On a New Years trip to Monterrey with Go With Jo, from Harlingen, TX, included a site trip to La Cola de Caballo or Horsetail Falls. I had visited this waterfall site several times in years past with family. But this recent visit was a pleasant experience due to the huge improvements made to this park. The road leading into this park still is a winding, narrow, 2-car lane but if our bus driver can maneuver it, then you and I can drive (in our cars not a bus). The best improvement is the paved walkway to the waterfall. Last time I was here, we had to walk on loose gravel and stones. We walked slowly to avoid a twisted ankle. No more! The road is made of flat stones and is a smooth paved walk. Since they offer a horse or buggy ride up to the waterfall the road is divided for pedestrian and for horses and buggies. The road is up hill but but steep. It takes about 15 minutes of a slow walk from the entrance to the waterfall. The park offers a zip line to go back down for $15 dollars. At the entrance of the park are the restrooms and they are extremely clean for being a public park. The parking fee is $1.50 and the entrance fee for adults is also $1.50. The horse back and buggy rides are $1.50 each way. I was surprised at these low prices but our tour guide explained that many locals frequent this park and the tourists benefit from these low prices. Another improvement is the picnic areas. They have concrete benches with a small roof cover and each bench has a BBQ grill. Humberto, our tour guide, said many families bring their food and drinks to spend the day here. This park also has vendors inside that don’t hassle you to buy their offerings. La Cola de Caballo is the landmark visit of Monterrey and need to include this site in your visit to Monterrey.

Villa De Santiago is a nice little town but far from being a Pueblo Mágico. There’s a water fall called cola de caballo thats terrible but there a hotel called cola de caballo that even worse than the water fall. There are better options to go in Nuevo León and I would avoid this place unless this was your last option. The hotel is old, with a poor maintenance.

Was very disappointed overall. My sons shoes were stolen from the back patio and nothing was done about it. We were back home when the so called manager emailed us telling us they were in the lost and found. That's a big lie because we had already asked if they were in the lost and found and the front desk lady said no. Regardless the shoes were taken from where they were originally placed so they could dry up. oh...and the beds are the worst problem. Bedbugs and the mattress is equivalent to sleeping on the floor.

The hotel and grounds were beautiful. Inside the rooms was nice enough, but the beds were hard and the air conditioner in our room was dripping water from the ceiling. Every two seconds another drop hit the floor. We ended up with a huge wet spot in the carpet by morning. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will go back again.

We visited this hotel on a week day and it was so calmed, we enjoyed the pool in the afternoon, brought some sandwiches and enjoy family time. There was none on Tuesday or Wednesday since all people work, it can get crowded and overwhelmed during the weekends since all Monterrey people go out of the city and most likely hit this part of town, good prices, we did not try the restaurant and the rooms are a little old but comfortable, they do the job, recommended for families during the week days...weekdays have a cheaper rate then weekends.
