Went for a post funeral meal ( last week) November 23 . The meal was paid for by the Marist Sisters . The meal was booked in advance for 70 to 80 people . The hotel knew in advance the numbers that would be attending . All the guests were seated by 2.00 -- 2.15 pm . The tables had been set up cutlery , glasses ,tableware etc clean table clothes set for the function with water , and diluted orange at every table , all looked good everything presentable . From then on everything went downhill , the calamity began . Not everyone got a menu. At our table of 12 we had two menus, it was doable we managed but more menus would have been better. We ordered our starters and main . Then for some unknown reason everyone got a thin a slice of bread, even those who did not order soup but no butter ,no jam which I found strange . Starters randomly appeared in no sequence , some diners at some tables had eaten the starter while others seated next to them had no starter for another 30 minutes . The table I was at was similar some got soup some seated beside them didnt get soup until half an hour later , others starters randomly appeared or didnt appear for ages . I ordered the chicken vol - au- vent,, it took for ever , everyone at my table finished there soup when some of the other tables started getting the main course .when I started my starter,, it was chewy chicken gloopy sauce not great just warm not really hot enough ,took a bite plastic micro wave taste ,I did not eat it but since it was a funeral meal I did not want to say anything. At this stage it was over an hour since we sat down for the meal . I picked at the slice of the bread that everyone got an hour earlier , we had to ask the waiting staff for butter. At the stage some of the other tables started eating there main . 30 minutes later still we had no food . Our table and the adjoining table asked several times for our main . Staff had no coordination ,seemed like it was the first day for all of them . some tables cleared from the starter ,some not cleared while at the same time the odd beef main appeared at most tables with the salmon delayed . Again similar situation with service as for starters some had food others nothing some diners had finished ,some still no main which was what happened at our table . Very chaotic staff no one to supervise the service. Most at my table ordered salmon with one beef order . It was nearly 4pm when we got our main that was a two hour wait for most at the table. My salmon was overdone but at the same time luke warm in the middle . The cubed veg ,, carrot and I think parsnip hard luke warm , I picked at salmon and ate the bread which had been on the table now for two hours and asked the the other two diners could I have the bread they got ,, which they kindly let me have (since they cant eat bread) , and I was starving at this stage . The main very very poor .I took two bites of the salmon left the rest could not eat the cubbed veg . The person seated across from me on the same table said the veg was that tough that his donkeys would choke on it. Everyone at our table and the next table commented on how random and slow some of the service was and how poor the food was and all complained about the long delays. So at 4 pm myself and my family members thanked the Marist Nuns for inviting us for a meal and we left . We did not have the time to wait for the dessert ,tea or coffee . At this stage its nearly 4.30 pm all in our party very hungry so we went to the drive thru at Supermacs for food . As we pulled out of Supermacs , we met another car of people that had been at the hotel for the funeral meal . I would guess that the meal starter ,main dessert ,tea and coffee would have been charged at a set price per head . I know for a fact 12 of us left after the poor service , poor food , long delays HUNGRY with no dessert ,tea of coffee . The funeral was paid for by the Marist nuns so I did not like to complain to the hotel . I talked quiet a few others that had been invited for food and they had the same opinion on the meal ,and they also did not want to say anything in case the nuns would have been offended as it was a very kind gesture to invite us in the first place . I do not know why this meal was so poor from start to finish ? I would hope that Michael O Hara the hotel proprietor, would do the decent thing and step up and give the Marist Sisters some refund or at least a donation . …
