This is a lovely little pension not far from Tomamu ski resort. The owners are a charming gentle old couple. Breakfast is included in the price. There is a public bath which is very nice. However there are a few flaws resulting in my grading of three bullets. The room is very very small and there is not much common room space available - a little bit but not much. You wouldn’t want to hang around the lodge all day reading a book. Unfortunately - and this is not the owners fault at all - the other guests were not as well mannered as they should have been. In particular, the sinks in the shared bathrooms were very messy with water splashed around (what do these guests do - wash their clothes in them?) each morning. Also one of them used up all our milk, which was in the common refrigerator clearly labelled. Perhaps the owners should put some signs around in English explaining some basic manners - like keep the bathroom sink tidy, wear toilet slippers in the toilet, etc etc.

I haven’t stay other homestay but comparing to the expensive Hoshino tower the value I got from here is way better. Firstly, the old owner was so kind to pick us up at the hotel and even under windy snowy weather. Not once but even the next day. When we check in, could experience that the place is homely and cosy. And surprisingly with a mini Osen too!! Despite the room being small, it was cosy enough for me and my wife. Breakfast was simple home cooked but delicious western food and my.. the dinner took us by surprise and was delicious and great! Ppl were all friendly with nice not so crowded environment. For that kind of price I pay, 5 stars!! P.S: the area had nothing much and only good for staying, sleeping over, coming back from a Long day out. We still have to go to tomamu and other areas for activities.

The owners are a very nice and amicable family. Dinner was FANTASTIC and we finished every morsel that was served to us. Just wow! i would definitely recommend anyone passing by to spend one night here at least! english is spoken, but during the explanation on unkai during dinner, its all done in japanese. very lovely place full of retro items that you'd find in an old home. a unique and great experience. am so glad that we had a chance to stay in this lovely pension.

Pension Ing Tomamu is very near to Hoshino Tomamu Resort, excellent location to stay as compared to Hoshino which is slightly on the pricey side. This homestay has a huge parking area so no problem with parking. It has 2 levels, but no lift. So would need to carry your luggage up if staying on second level. Toilets and bathrooms are located on the first level. Room is basic, just beds and heater/aircon. Basically, no entertainment here as there were no television around. Food was brilliant! We were treated to delicious dinner (fusion between Italian and Japanese) and breakfast. Bathroom is a public bath with onsen inside. First time experiencing public bath so was quite uncomfortable. But it was alright as there weren't many people during my stay there. Overall, nice place to stay!

Our group of five spent one night here during the first week of July. At their price, it was mostly a disappointment based compared to the other pensions/b&b which we stayed in other parts of Hokkaido during our stay. Public bath and toilet areas were quite clean. We stayed in the only room downstairs as it was the biggest. It was quite aged and was JUST enough to fit 5 futons. We couldn't even open any of our luggages! In fact, when any one of us had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, we basically had to step over some sleepy bodies! They had some vacant rooms but wouldn't split us up. There was no in-room electric water kettle and they didn't provide any hot drinking water in the public area. Other public area was basically the foyer/reception and the restaurant - both of which showed its age. Food quality and taste was very mediocre compared to similarly priced pensions/hotels which we stayed in other parts of Hokkaido. I am really sorry to say so ~ I don't cook often but do feel that I can probably cook up something of similar standard. The owner was very friendly and enthusiastic. The wife and the son were all right. It was mostly their price that I was expecting something better. If it was priced cheaper, I would have had lower expectations and wouldn't have minded being crammed into a room barely fitting us all.

Affordable stay in Tomamu if you cannot afford the expensive and touristy Hoshino Resort Hotels. With a car, you can drive up to the Resort in winter time for winter activities and visit their Ice Village. Downside is the rooms do not have ensuite bathrooms. Guess it will be inconvenient if it is fully occupied. Still, this is a minor inconvenience compared to the hospitality and helpfulness of the host.

The owner and his family were very welcoming to their guests. The place was clean, and has an onsen and public bath facilities. The room is small but adequate and the entire place was very well maintained. Don't forget to see the starry night in the middle of night. We, a group of 8, opted for the full board and the dinner and breakfast dining experience is as good as hotel standard. The family took their time and meticulously prepared the meals. FYI - the dad, mom and son are all certified cooks. Food was yummy.

We stayed at a hotel for a night and it was a great stay. The hotel is around 10 min drive from Tomamu Station and Unkai Terrace is not far away. It's a family run business so it has that warm atmosphere that I really love. The owner who warmly welcomed us was a gentle old man who love to take pictures of animals around the area. (Especially, those tiny Japanese weasels. They are too cute to resist!) It's a small hotel with not many room. The room is not very big and a bit too old-school but it's very comfy and perfectly clean. The toilet is shared and there is a public bath available also. The food here is also great. The dinner was 3-course French food in Japanese style (The main course was served with rice.) and it tastes amazingly good. It's the first time I got to try deer meat. The breakfast was simply delicious too. I would recommend this place to anyone who wanna visit Unkai Terrace. P.S. There is no convenient store around (The town is small and completely quiet at night.) So if you're addicted to midnight snacks like me, don't forget to bring some along with you.

If there was a Pension Ing at every Japan resort, I'd have a much easier time organising my tour of snow resorts in Hokkaido. The pension is about a 5 minute drive (if that) from the Resource Centre / Towers, and you don't have to worry about walking, Tadayuki-san will give you a lift there and back. Drop-Offs and Picks-Ups are scheduled at 9am and 4pm. And unless you are going to be buying hourly tickets, don't even think about buying your day pass with cash on the mountain, Takayuki-san will give you a coupon which you can redeem for a ticket. In exchange for this magical coupon, you will pay a few hundred yen less then the prices listed at the ticket counter. (Using 2 coupons were cheaper then buying a discounted two day ticket). Now, back to the Pension. It is homey and cute. The breakfasts were filling, consisting of the creamiest scrambled eggs, some protein (ham, etc), maybe a yogurt, croissant, or warmed up buns. The dinner, oh my god the DINNER. It's better then going to most restaurants. It consisted of 4 houses: appetiser (we had some smoked salmon and pork roulettes while we stayed), soup, mains with a salad and plate of rice, followed by dessert. Each course was delicious and presented beautifully. The room I stayed in was in the area by the stairs which appear to be slightly larger rooms. It was warm and comfortable. The beds were pretty firm though, but after a day of riding, I slept well. And now to the bathrooms - they are public bathrooms split for men and women - which were new to me. I wasn't too excited about this part, but when I did go shower and there were 3 others there, it did not feel awkward at all. And the best part about the bathrooms, is that they have an indoor onsen. So don't worry about spending any extra money unless you want to go to some fancy outdoor place. Pension Ing was a wonderful two night stay, which was just enough time to run all around the resort if the powder area is closed. IF the powder area is open, a few more days at Pension Ing would have definitely been called for. So just to recap - for the price you pay at the pension you get: a room, a full blown first rate restaurant feeding you, an onsen, better discount on the lift tickets that you pay to Pension Ing when you check out, a pick up form the Train or the Tower, AND the most loveable hosts. Couldn't recommend staying here more! For get Towers, you want to stay here.
