The Sekitei is a very decent place to stay if visiting Tokyo, particularly for tourism. Great location between both Okubo and Shin-Okubo stations on the JR, so you can get to Shinjuku, Tokyo, Shinagawa, etc. stations pretty quickly. Hotel is definitely old, but very clean - keep in mind it is in traditional Japanese style, so you'll be sleeping and... More

My friend and I stayed here for one night. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and tidy. We were offered and accepted the use of two futon mattresses each and were still a bit uncomfortable but happy to put up with this for the price and quiet location when compared to the Tokyo hostel... We stayed here for five nights in a triple room. We got a room on the second floor. The staff were very friendly and like to chat with guests. They spoke very very good English! This place is basically catered towards foreigners, so you probably won't see any Japanese guests. My roommates slept on one layer of futon without problems... More

I stayed at Sekitei for four nights in a single room on the top floor. The guesthouse was happy to receive my luggage before I arrived as it was being transferred from Kyoto. Staff were pleasant and provided a second mattress at no charge. They cleaned the room and changed the amenities daily including towels, toothbrushes, and shampoo/conditioner/body wash. They changed... More

This was our first stop on our two week whirlwind trip around Japan. And it was great. The guys who run the place are the epitome of Japanese service. They are so friendly, so willing to help. It was fantastic. If you're hoping for 5-star experience this isn't for you. But if you want a small simple friendly inn then... More

With a Japanese style room it is a bit cramped (but manageable) for two people, suitably clean, the staff friendly and knowing enough english to make our stay easy. Located one stop away from Shinjuku on the train was superb; the train station about 4 mins walk. The toughest part was working out how to use the toilet (it was one... More

Shin-Okubo Sekitei provides great value for your money. It's situated down an alleyway off the main street that's right between the JR Shin-Okubo station (on the Yamanote line) and the JR Okubo station. There are 2 7-Eleven locations nearby, so finding an ATM is effortless, and so many restaurants line the main street that you need never starve. We stayed... More

There’s not a lot of information about the Shin Okubo Sekitei on Trip Advisor, so I was a bit worried about what the hotel was going to be like. Turns out, it’s a pretty good place to stay! The hotel is located a 3 minute walk from Shin Okubo station, which is on the Yamanote line (this takes you to... More

I stayed with my friend twice in this hotel and find it very value for money. It is 3min walk from Shinokubo and Okubo stations. Convenient stores and restuarants are nearby and the neighbourhood is pretty safe. The hotel is also quiet for sleeping at night. For 3000 yen per pax, you get a double room with a traditional bed,... More
