Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

To be honest I'm perplexed as to why "The Strand Inn" receives such favourable reviews. Stayed for one night at considerable expense. €180.... breakfast included for a three star Inn in mid February.... go figure. There is no onsite parking and no obvious entrance to the reception which is literally a tiny booth at the back of the premises. We had to carry our luggage through the bar and restaurant, which were full of customers at the time, in pursuit of the elusive check in point. Our double room was very very small and full of negatives. The one radiator was not working, the bed base was made up of two single beds on castors with a king size mattress balanced on top.... which dwarfed the base. The bed had one light duvet which was not adequate for a mid winters night. One of the light fittings beside the bed was broken and hanging off the wall. The bathroom door kept hitting a very large sink which limited access. The water pressure both hot and cold was none existent. We contacted reception about the radiator issue and the ever moving bed which seemed to take on a life of its own. A maintence man arrived with a packet of castor wheel cups which he applied while telling us that guests have a habit of bringing them home with them. The balcony area was in need of lots of TLC. We dined in but service was very poor and slow. I overheard staff saying they were short on numbers and hadn't expected so many customers on the night. Food was just so so but over priced. An apple crumble was €9..... am I missing something here. Breakfast was a major disappointment....I had a basic fry. How can you get that wrong. The bacon was hard as a rock and I eventually gave up the battle. I was given a tiny jug of milk to accompany my coffee which was filthy inside. I was left with sour milk floaters staring back at me when applied. I am relativerly easy going but what was on offer was totally unacceptable considering the price. Would not recommend and will not be back.

New years day and was pouring rain so just got in the car with my wife and dog and drove.... ended up here walking the beach and decided to have a bite to eat. Prawn starter was top class as we're the 2 fish mains. Guinness was to die for and the service was top class. Our new go 2 place.....thank u

We had such a lovely stay here! The location is fantastic for enjoying the quaint little sea town and the views are spectacular. We went off season and stayed only one night (wish we could have stayed longer). There was a huge storm on our way into town which lasted through the night. We had dinner at the restaurant and watched the waves hit the windows and let the sounds of the sea lull us to sleep. In the morning the sun was brilliant the waves were calmer. We even saw people swimming! The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly during our stay and Nora helped with a new route to our destination to avoid flooding and a great recommendation to see the Rock of Cashel on the way. We definitely recommend this place!

It was fun, and the view was beautiful. The staff were friendly and so helpful. The restaurant was pretty good, great service. We had a very nice time at the hotel. We used it as a base and drove to Kilkenny from there. Kilkenny was worth the trip. Thank you to all of the staff for making our experience there a happy one.

Pros: Stunning location. Breakfast lovely, overlooking the sea. Room views overlook the sea. Nice restaurants and pubs walking distance. Cliff walk nearby. On beautiful beach. Cons: the check in was awful, terrible customer service, absolutely shocked at the treatment!!!! Room had cobwebs, not very clean, carpet and couch had awful stains. Plumbing smells coming from drains. Stay here for the beach and location, yet the hotel itself requires a deep clean. It is a 3 star though so maybe the is what you get? I believe reception will be better for future guests yet my stay was definitely soured and I would not stay again.

My wife and I had had a meal here a few years earlier and on our way home from a confwrence in Cork decided to stay for three nights bed and breakfast. What can I say Sophia at reception was like no other, guiding you to your perfect room and always checking you were ok never once stopping to.make your stay an enjoyable one, with nothing too difficult and always greeting you with her wonderful cheerfulness and smile. In between reception she abd David doubled up in making our rooms lovely every day. The rooms were gorgeous beautifully decorated, walk in showers, very cosy beds and each room individually designed with balconies. The staff at breakfast were fantastic with nothing.too difficult including accomodating my health needs alongside my wife Carolines. David on our last day was under pressure and again nothing was too difficult for him and the other lady staff member. This is a hotel you should detour to,just to be blessed with a home from home Once visited I guarantee you'll be back. If I were the owners of this hotel I'd go undercover just to discover how special they really are. Rev Paul S Burns BTh (Hons.) Such an amazing, wonderful, perfect evening at the Strand, big warm, genuine welcome from Cliff, chat and banter, spectacular view, lots of great people watching, and restaurant buzzing. Exceptional food, spanking fresh crab claws and halibut, professional, attentive service, like watching a ballet, so stressfree and relaxed. Thank you, so much, and best of luck in Rathmines

Food and staff were excepsitional. Great atmosphere here and lovely views. Room was basic, if we opened our windows anyone could get into our room, so room was stuffy. Bathroom very small. Toilet rolls and tea/coffee not replenished every day. Couldn't lock door from inside. Bed was very comfortable and room as reasonably clean. No parking at hotel is a big problem as street parking was full all the time. Besides all we enjoyed our visit

I had a meal with my husband at the Stand Inn while visiting Dunmore East in July. I ordered the fish and chips and the meal was acceptable. My husband order the Seafood Pie. We were told that we would have to wait 20 mins for the Pie which is reasonable. However, when the pie arrived it was in an oblong dish approx 10cm long, 6cm wide and 2 cm deep. It cost €22.50. It's the worst value we've had in a long time and we travel the country extensively. I would never return to eat here again

We absolutely love the strand. We stay here every year and can't recommend the place enough. It's a family run hotel and it's situated in one of the most tranquil places in Ireland. The food is incredible, and the scenery is amazing. Can't wait to go back again next year!
