With a Yorkshire family heritage I was somewhat shocked while driving out from Cirencester on holiday to see that Barnsley had relocated to the Cotswolds in a shrunken, but perfect form. This street of old houses and the Norman Church are just a magnificent, tourist-free sight. We caught sight of the Village Pub just too late to turn into the... More

Went here for an evening meal. Really good menu selection of fish and meat and wide selection of specials. We had a nice table in the main restaurant which was packed so recommend booking. The pork I had was exceptional as was my wife's meal. I didn't have room for dessert but they looked amazing. The sundaes and sticky toffee... More

Don't now where to start.Eastern European staff who don't speak very good English.Sat at one of four tables that are by the dresser that the staff keep coming to for cutlery very difficult to relax. Went to order and told out of steak and the house steak pie 7.15pm on a Saturday night their busiest night of the week ?... More

I don't want to rave too much as someone is sure to go and then be disappointed but we had a wonderful meal in very cosy surroundings with the most excellent service. I had fish soup which was beautifully served with croutons and ruillle? ( a sort of garlic mayonaise) followed by the most delicious rhubarb crumble. the rooms are... More

A very pleasant small boutique style pub with accommodation, along the road from its sister Hotel, Barnsley House hotel. There are six rooms on the smaller Village pub site, all of which are carefully and beautifully decorated to a high standard. We had a very nice four poster bed, with excellent quality bed linen and matress etc. The room (... More

Great pub with really nice bedrooms. Stayed here for 1 night recently. In fact it was a return visit, the last one was 20 years ago! The only reason for leaving it so long was because we don't live that far away. We had dinner at Barnsley House so can only comment on the breakfast which was very good and... More

My brother and I have driven past The Village Pub many times and eventually decided to take a trip to try it out. We chose to sit in the main room with a lovely roaring fire. The greeting was warm and polite and the table was simple and well placed. One small criticism would be the paper napkins which seemed... More

Excellent sunday lunch today at the the village pub in Barnsley, great middle meeting point for lunch with my sisters between Pewsey and Tetbury. Five of us all agreed the meal and ambience was the best we have experienced for a long time. The pub was very busy, that says it all but the staff were very professional and friendly,... More

This pub really is rather like a film set of the perfect place to sit and while away an hour or two. Stylish decor, roaring woodburner, just the ticket on a chilly February day. The staff were friendly and efficient and the menu was interesting enough to tempt but not so lengthy as to deter you from making a reasonably... More

Went here for Valentines dinner. Friendly and attentive staff. Good choice on menu. Food very enjoyable. Atmosphere perfect for the occaision and all other times. Have already recommended it to several friends. Only two gripes... food could have been hotter and why oh why are they using cheap paper napkins. Will definitely go again soon.
