The staff were friendly and helpful. They are all local and do their best to please. The food was good for a homestay The room was a reasonable size, comfortable and clean. The Cardamom House website says that the property is ‘on the edge of the lake’ – this made us think that the property was right on the lake... More

Firstly let me say thank you for your kind report. However there are many numerous inaccuracies which I feel compelled to correct so that other potential visitors know the true facts about "Cardamom House". OUR LOCATION. As described in our website' overlooking the edge of the Lake' is absolutely correct. Planning regulations prevent building along the actual lake edge itself... More

Set overlooking a lake, this is a very comfortable place. Our room was very large, clean and comfortable. A definite plus was the terrace and comfortable seating from which we could look at the views of the lake and mountains. We recommend binoculars so that you can see the birds. The staff were very helpful and the welcome very warm... More

We stayed at Cardamom house in March for two nights and even though it is off the beaten track it is well worth the detour. All the staff are marvellous and extremely helpful over any detail, but do try for a room in the main house as these are very comfortable, with a beautiful balcony overlooking the rolling vista.Eating is a communal table... We stayed three nights at Cardamom House in February 2013. The house is situated in a wonderful part of Tamil Nadu, by a small lake and surrounded by the foothills of the Western Ghats. Accommodation is very comfortable, either in the main building, or in a bungalow, surrounded by trees and flowering shrubs. The lake is a paradise for bird... More

We had 2 nights at this fantastic home-stay property. Chris and the team are wonderful hosts and the resident dog Jansy, is a great companion and guide on walks around the area. We came here after 8 intense days of temple hopping and it was a perfect place to switch off, relax and take in the picturesque views. Relax on... More

A lovely situation over looking the lake, very comfortable accommodation, sunbirds sipping nectar three feet away from you as you sit in your chair on the verandah, good food eaten at open-air communal tables with other guests and best of all, enthusiastic, knowledgeable hosts - Chris and the team. Pretty well perfect! You really need to spend at least four... More

I have rarely come across so many enthusiastic reviews and I can confirm that they are accurate and fully justified. We had a 5-night stay at Cardamom House recently and it was so enjoyable: A wonderful place to chill out and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. From the veranda you can look over the tops of the tall bushes of the... More

What a pleasure to share the meals with other guests. Outstanding quality and service. Wonderful place to relax before continuing the journey. Will be even more interesting with swimming-pool to be built after April 2013. Interesting vist of the villages around.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
AN OVERVIEW! Nestling in the Eastern foothills of the mighty Western Ghats, "Cardamom House" overlooks the monsoon dependent "Kamarajar Lake" and is surrounded by unbelievably beautiful mountainous scenery. The staff have been working together as a team for some 16 years - and several of them (having visited the U.K) speak English. We are proud of our cuisine which encompasses a wide range of culinary styles (Indian, Continental, Thai, Chinese - and we often 'invent' recipes ourselves! Food is of the highest quality and we purchase only the freshest of fresh vegetables sometimes twice a day - to ensure the 'pick of the crop'.BIRDLIFE AND WILDLIFE? There is an abundance of Birdlfe including peacocks and many others. Leopard, black panther, lynx, jungle cat, bison, sambar, barking and mouse deer have also been spotted from time to time. HOW TO GET HERE? CHENNAI(MADRAS) airport is a 45 minute flight from both MADURAI and TRICHY Airports - both an easy 2 hour drive away. So despite being in a very remote place, we are very easy to get to!THINGS TO DO?Relaxing : walking : photography : swimming : yoga : maditation : Village Tour : Madurai Temple : Kodaikanal Hioll StationIn summary - our little "Family Homestay" owned and managed by Dr. Chris - a retired British physician. Cardamom House is a perfect place to 'drop out' and have a truly relaxing holiday whilst being 'spoiled rotten' by our excellent staff. ... more   less
