I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. It was clean and the hot spring water was soft and made my skin smooth. We also visited the large bathroom downstairs, which was spacious and had nice spring water. Dinner was prepared in a separate private room. Again, this was a nice Japanese-style room with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was very tasty from the starters and I felt happy. And the staff were very helpful, both at the front desk and in the restaurant. She saw me off when I left, and at that point she pointed to the roof of the hotel and said, "Look. I looked at the roof and saw a real heron perched on it. And when we got in the car and started driving away, the heron flew away too. That was the last service at the Saginoyu(Heron’s Bath).

I was happy with my stay here. The room was very dated in terms of decor, but most importantly it was clean and comfortable. Some toiletries are provided and the bed and pillow were comfortable. If you don't like your room to be flooded with light early in the morning maybe ask for a room that isn't east-facing - there are big windows and the screens are a thin white fabric with no proper curtains. The place itself is lovely with a beautiful Japanese garden and footbath, and also a very nice public outdoor onsen. The front desk isn't always staffed with English-speaking staff but we got by.

Disclaimer: This was my first time staying at a ryokan and was the only time I stayed at a hotel in Japan instead of a hostel because there weren't any hostels near the Kami Suwa train station. Anyways, I thought this ryokan was very clean, nice and convenient for my one night stay by myself. It is located right across the street from the lake and right in front of the summer fireworks, which was a pleasant surprise. The staff were very kind during check in, although it was slightly difficult to converse with them in English, but they have plenty of English instructions in the room on how to use the onsens and other hotel amenities. The foot and regular onsens were very hot and relaxing. My single room was perfect in size, very clean, and comfortable. Also, they provide a yukata which was awesome. The breakfast in the morning was amazing, so make sure you include it when you are booking your room. The pear jello dessert in particular at the breakfast was absolutely delicious, and I wish I could have brought a gallon of it home. All in all, I really enjoyed this stay and I was tempted to book Hotel Beniya because it was a similar price for a single person, but I would still book this hotel next time if I come back alone to experience the authentic ryokan environment again.…

Stayed here for one night in a Japanese style room with my family. It's a very beautiful hotel, with a Zen rock garden, Ashiyu (foot onsen) and a nice full onsen. The staff were very helpful and attentive and they even had a yukata for my 2 year old son when we asked. The onsen is very relaxing and open almost 24 hrs to hotel guests. Around 00:30 the male and female sides change and so it is possible to try both sides of the onsen (I prefer the one on the left as pictured above). I went to the onsen 3 times while I was there. We opted not to do a dinner at the hotel, since they were asking 6,000 yen per person and that seemed a bit expensive for us. We did do breakfast and it was quite nice. I would definitely stay here again, but there were quite a few other hotels around that looked tempting too.…

Just came back from a four-nights stay. The food is always prepared with finess and delicacy. Everyone in the hotel is so friendly, especially Melody who is the room attendant for dinner. Location is unbeatable with th beautiful view of Suwa lake. Onsen is also set in an appropriate environment. The in-room onsen is a good try if available. Would recommend to others who visit Suwa lake.

We stayed at his ryokan as part of a tour with other Canadians. It was a good ryokan experience. Hotel is located across Lake Suwa nice area for walking. The hotel isn't the newest or fanciest but it is still very clean and beautiful. The traditional set Japanese dinner and breakfast was a great experience and the service always professional and polite. Free Wifi is best in the lobby. The room looked quite tired and the bathrooms were really showing their age (not great). A peacock screeching did not make for a quiet stay. Hotel has separate men and women Onsens hot spring bath house - not used by many of our group. Note that bathing suits are not allowed (not for the shy) There are also foot baths outside. A Japanese room provides a very different experience. Sleeping on a mat on the floor takes some getting use to, we did not find it very comfortable as well as the chairs with no legs. If you have knee or back problems it may not be the best choice. We only stayed one night.…

We arrived very tired and we got to our rooms in a very narrow and slow elevator to the 3rd floor. Our room was laid out in the traditional Japanese style. Slippers, minimal bedroom, a lovely living room leading on to the bed room. In the closets along the walls there were bedding and kimonos which we adorned for our group's traditional evening meal which was a great treat for all of us (photos attached.). On our return from the evening meal, we found our bedding was removed from the closets and laid out on the floor. Although nearly at floor level, but we were quite comfortable.Breakfast was traditional Japanese cuisine excellent. On the whole a great hotel although I was disappointed by the run down shower, and its appliances, rusty and in a bad shape. I hope management take this into consideration. This was certainly off standard. Staff so very friendly. WiFi free but weak.…

This Ryokan locates besides the Suwa lake and quite close to the Kamisuwa station. There are convenient stores and a few restaurants nearby. In general, locations of onsen-ryokan are quite remote, so this Ryokan is definitely an exceptional one. My friend and I stayed one of the rooms inside "秀芦閣" building. It had a marvelous lake view with sunset. The dinner was "Shinshu beef" (信州牛) shabu-shabu, that was so delicious and juicy! Besides the dinner, the breakfast was also very tasty. The service was great and staff was friendly. I did really enjoy my stay there.

The location was so good. The ryokan is in front of Lake Suwa. I could enjoy a beautiful scenery. The meals were excellent! I ate Japanese traditional delicious dishes. The service was amazing! The staff are delightful, all very helpful and friendly. Could have stayed here for more nights, but that's for next time! I am sure we will go back some day!

We stayed at his ryokan as part of the Spring Takayama Festival Tour by Japan Deluxe Tours. It was the best ryokan experience so far in my travels to Japan. The hotel isn't the newest or fanciest but it is still very clean and beautiful. The onsen was great, the food was great and the service was the best. The okami-san was so charming and gracious as were the entire staff. We really enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed longer.
