Ernest house is very close to a couple of nice beaches which are relatively empty (for Shimoda) during the summer months. The hotel itself is clean and the rooms are adequate but nothing out of the ordinary. The breakfast basket is awesome. Decent value during peak season.

One of the more homely hotels in Shimoda. This is in a great location close to the beach and many of the restaurants and bars etc. Really friendly staff who are very welcoming. Ernest House offers standard clean accommodation right by the beach. The rooms are basic with floorboards but very clean. They offer a TV (no English Channel) and a computer in the room. My family went here for a weekend getaway, and the proprietors were lovely. The room was really comfortable (although the bathroom was tiny). We had breakfast delivered to our room (very tasty!). All of the amenities were great.
