I recently had a meal with my husband and another couple. We went to the Ellerby as my friends husband is 6ft 7' has an enormous appetite and knew by previous visits that the portion sizes were generous. What a disappointment. 3 mushrooms for the starter.....Really! The portion sizes have been significantly cut, which I think was the best thing... More

We have visited The Ellerby regularly over the years and chose to visit here for my Grandad's 75th birthday because we've never had a bad meal here in the last. Unfortunately, this was not the case this time around. The service was very slow with a long wait to take our orders for food and drinks and in between courses.... More

We enjoyed an excellent couple of meals at The Ellerby. It's in a lovely setting, still convenient to Whitby. A bright fire made up for the dismal weather. Lunch menu was varied, satisfying and good value, and the evening meals were exceptionally good. Would recommend booking a table at busy times.

As below, we would certainly stay again. Handy for Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay etc. excellent food, friendly staff, good value for money. Poor mobile phone reception though, was the only downside, otherwise, an enjoyable stay, we had room 7 on the ground floor, very clean, only a double bed, not sure if they have rooms with king size beds. Nice... More

Went for a meal here as we were staying at Runswick Bay. It was a Monday night and by 7.30pm, the place was extremely busy with people ordering meals, so that was a good sign. I had steak pie, the plate was loaded with succulent steak and a crust topping, my wife had the gammon steak, both came with a... More

i have stayed here 3 times now and the attraction is that it is only 1 mile from Runswick Bay and 5 minutes in the car to Whitby and that it offers 2 rooms which are dog friendly (for an extra cost of £5). The rooms are standard and very clean. There is a lovely sitting out area at the... More

This is an ideal place for breakfast, lunch or evening meal. All cooked to perfection using local traders produce. High standard of cleanliness and staff are friendly and professional. Although we have never stayed in the accomodation, friends of ours have and report this to also be to a high standard. Try this place out....you will not be disappointed.

My family and I have been visiting The Ellerby for many years, both for lunch and evening meals, as well as weekend breaks and we have NEVER been disappointed with anything. The food is of a consistently excellent standard with a wide choice of dishes from the main and specials menu. The staff are ALWAYS friendly, welcoming and helpful. I... More

We spent two nights at the hotel for a short break, it was a special Winter offer, two nights bed and breakfast for the price of one. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we could not fault anything. We were shown to our room which was beautifully appointed, large bed, lovely bathroom with bath and shower.Spotlessly... First the location: nothing else in the village, but then again it is handy for Whitby, which is always worth a visit. This was not our first stay at the Ellerby, so this review is based on long-term experience of the hotel. The rooms are are a high standard. The owners are rolling out a programme of upgrading, and the... More
